Former Open champion Gary Player claimed at Carnoustie(英国城市:卡诺斯蒂) yesterday that “at least 10 guys” playing top class golf were taking performance-enhancing drugs(兴奋剂).The veteran(资深的) South African, who no longer plays in the championship said he knew that some players were using human growth hormone (HGH:人类生长激素) and steroids(类固醇).
“We have to have tests at random(随机地),” said Player, who won three Open titles including one at Carnoustie in 1968. “Were dreaming if we believe its not coming into golf, I know that there are golfers doing drugs, whether its HGH or steroids.”“I would say on the World Tours Today, there are at least 10 guys taking something.”“It wont be lower but it might be a hell of a lot more.”“One guy told me, and I took an oath prior to him telling me, but he told me what he did and I could see this massive change in him. Only yesterday a friend of mines son in America was told by his college coach to get on the stuff(东西), HGH.”“Every doctor I go to now tells me to take it, saying it will make me stronger, but I dont want to do it because I dont know what it will do to me.”
Golf has yet to introduce random testing but with the agreement of the US Tour to introduce it earlier this summer, plans are now being made to have a process in place worldwide next year.
