Journey into the world’s largest and most visited museum in the world, the Louvre. From its castle foundation to its current state as home to some 38,000 treasured works of art, discover their stories and history, and spend quality time with the Mona Lisa on this one-of-a-kind storytelling experience. On this live online tour, our expert Louvre guides will help you understand the architectural transition (建筑的过渡) from castle to art gallery, and the important works of art.
The ancient statue of Venus de Milo plays an important role in the modern culture. But why is she considered one of the best examples of Greek sculpture? And what secrets does she tell in her figure of ancient Greece? Our experts will answer these questions and tell you all the little details some observers may miss.
Moving on to other works we will visit the Winged Victory of Samothrace generally held as a competitor in beauty to the statue of Venus we just explored. Our guides will explain the discussion over its origins, other images inspired by her figure, and where, how, and why she traveled in the year 1939.
After a look at a few more masterpieces we will continue our way through the halls, moving closer to a painting so famous that it attracts close to six million visitors each year. The time spent looking at her is only 15 seconds—though we will spend much more time in her presence through the storytelling of our expert guides. The painting hardly needs a name—but that painting is the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci.

I am a Canadian artist living in Victoria. My work focuses on peace. My art helps me find answers, or at least deal with some of the worrying realities of the modern day.
My trips to Baghdad standing for peace caused huge stress to my family and me. It took a few years before I was able to come to accept that whole experience and work out how to continue to work as an artist. I put my energy into creating natural art facilities that awoke a sense of peace in myself and others. I set up my first project in a large field, using a simple mother and child design. I later did two similar, small works, one in Scotland and the other in Baghdad.
I wanted to create something more permanent (永恒的). So I created the “Peace Image” in Hudson’s Hope. It can’t be seen very well on the ground these days, because the locals just loved riding over the large piles of dirt. I don’t mind that at all. The “Peace Image” still turns up well from the air and on Google Maps though.
For more than 50 years now, I’ve felt pleased to be able to express myself through my art. In the autumn of 2013, I was encouraged to lead a Peace Garden art project at Woodwynn Farms in Central Saanich. After everything we had been through, it was such a gift to work closely with my wife, Elizabeth Wellburn, a talented artist. It was and still is a labor of love.

Maya Ackerman just wanted to write a song. She tried for years—song after song. In the end, she didn’t like any of the tunes she wrote. She says, “All the melodies (旋律) that came into my mind were so boring that I couldn’t imagine wasting time performing them.” Maybe, she thought, a computer could help. It was a flash of inspiration. “I knew immediately that it would be possible for a machine to give me ideas,” she says. That inspiration led to the creation of ALYSIA, a songwriting program that uses algorithms (算法). When first-time songwriters type in lyrics, this computer program can produce new melodies, based on the lyrics.
As a computer scientist at Santa Clara University in California, Ackerman has a lot of experience using algorithms. These are step-by-step math ways to solve problems and make predictions. Algorithms are useful in programming computers. They can also be useful for everyday tasks.
When a computer runs software, it’s completing tasks by following algorithms written as computer language. Computer scientists like Ackerman analyze, study and write algorithms to solve a series of problems. Some of them use algorithms in the field of a new technology, AI, which teaches computers to carry out tasks or activities that the human brain usually deals with.
Ackerman isn’t the only one using AI for songwriting. Some programs produce music for many instruments. AI is also finding its way into other arts. Painters, dancers and photographers have found new ways to make use of Al algorithms. Ahmed Elgammal runs a computer-science lab that focuses on using AI to influence art. “AI is a creative tool that will be accepted as an art form,” he says. “It will influence the way art is made, and what art will be.”
5. What did Maya Ackerman think of the song she wrote?
A. Surprising. B. Satisfactory. C. Disappointing. D. Wonderful.
6. What is Ackerman skilled at?
A. Making use of algorithms. B. Making scientific predictions.
C. Recording her own songs. D. Recommending new songs.
7. What is the use of AI according to the text?
A. Making people write better algorithms. B. Doing things that people often do.
C. Letting computers follow algorithms. D. Inventing a variety of creative tools.
8. What can we infer from the last paragraph?
A. AI has been used mainly in singing. B. AI can take the place of instruments.
C. Elgammal is a famous artist. D. Elgammal thinks highly of AI.
