Typhoon “Odette” wasthe 15th storm to hit Philip?pine in 2021. Almost 16 mil?lion Filipinos were facingthreats including strongwinds, heavy rains, flooding,landslides, displacement and risking lossof life, home, livelihood and agriculture.Reyn Ambag was one of the children whowere rescued during the typhoon.
Reyn Ambag was a Grade 7 studentliving on the island of Siargao. WithValues Education as his favorite subject inschool, Reyn is always ready to help others.Reyn was raised by his mother who was asingle parent and ran a retail store alone.Reyns mother supported their daily needsand Reyns schooling by the income shegot from the small retail store.
During Typhoon Odette, Reyns familystayed inside the comfort room of theschool. There, he witnessedthrough the window how thestrong winds of the typhoondestroyed the area. Theystayed there until the stormdied down and it was safefor them to go out. Upon returning to theirhome, they were astonished to find thattheir house was damaged due to the fallentrees.
After observing the delays in restoringthe electricity in their community, Reynwanted to be an electrician someday sothat if a power cut would happen becauseof a typhoon, he would be able to help inrestoring it in time.
