1 The vocation of astronauts had for a long time seemed“ sacred （神圣的） and distant”to Gui Haichao until the researcher became a member of the Astronaut Center of China.The 36⁃year⁃old from Yunnan Province became the first Chinese payload expert to fly inspace in May 30， 2023.

2“ When Jing Haipeng was flying onboard the Shenzhou Ⅶ spaceship in September2008， I was still a university student. 5 Thanks to his perseverance and diligence， Gui progressed rapidly in every training course and was chosen for the Shenzhou mission. He became the scientist in thiscountry to travel in orbit. The professor said he feels fortunate and honored to become thefirst Chinese science payload specialist to fly in space. “I am sure that with missioncommander Jing’s guidance and the crew members’close cooperation， we will successfullyperform our duties. We will use our efforts to contribute to the great‘ New Era’ and meetthe expectations of the Party and the people，” Gui said.
