At the beginning of 2023, the PCTC management team of the China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited (CSSC) celebrated the good start of operation as it successfully signed the five 9000CEU PCTCs construction contract. During the Spring Festival, the team followed up the victory, continuously burnt the midnight oil, tracking the target shipowner, negotiating subsequent orders, modifying technical documents,terribly busy, just to seize the rare opportunity of strong recovery of the global PCTC market, open up more market, win over more customers,harvest more orders, and assist in the transformation and upgrading and high quality development of CSSC.
Up to now, CSSC has undertaken 32-PCTC orders of 7000-9200CEU,and its global market share has jumped to 25%, achieving a historic leap from catch-up in running to running shoulder to shoulder in the large PCTC domain. A principal of the PCTC management team said that this achievement is by no means plain sailing.
The principal said that in the early days of the epidemic, the auto trade market fell to the bottom, with limited PCTC new ship market demand and moderate CSSC PCTC stock orders. With the epidemic gradually stabilizing and the shipping market gradually recovering, based on the market analysis, considering impacts of the development of production and marketing, change of trade pattern,and the acceleration of environmental protection and emission reduction,CSSC decided to build a PCTC management team integrating trade,design and construction.
The PCTC management team is planned and organized by the CSSC Offshore Engineering Department,CSTC actively plays the roles of main platform and main channel of the operation, and carries out close cooperation with CSSC backbone ship enterprises, design institutes and other units, and establishes efficient, concentrated and pragmatic coordination mechanism and communication platform. The principal said when the PCTC fleet update demand comes up, CSTC will, based on the construction experience of Jiangnan Shipbuilding, Guangzhou Shipbuilding International, Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding, and the matching degree of production facilities and PCTC,cooperate with various shipyards to actively participate in the new shipbuilding projects, repeatedly compare technical proposals,summarize business experience, study competitors, analyze the situation development, focus on striving for strategic customers and expanding end car enterprise customers, assist the CSSC PCTC construction matrix led by Jiangnan Shipbuilding, Guangzhou Shipbuilding International and Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding in winning its reputation in the global PCTC market,establishing itself as a strong engine to activate the CSSC PCTC construction strength.
In terms of serving the national strategy, the PCTC management team bravely undertakes the responsibility and mission, and vigorously promotes“domestic ships built in China and domestic cars transported in China”. The principal said, CSTC in collaboration with shipyards took initiative, optimized the model, and moved the customer heart with the biggest sincerity. It worked with Guangzhou Shipbuilding International to win the six 7000CEU PCTCs order of COSCO Special Shipping,with Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding to win the three 8600CEU PCTCs order of COSCO Special Shipping, and with Jiangnan Shipbuilding to successfully undertake the Anji Logistics 7800CEU PCTC project. In a real sense, these orders have realized “domestic ships built in China and domestic cars transported in China” in ocean transport of China's automobile industry, and debottlenecked marine equipment shortage in the global supply chain for China's new energy vehicle export.
The principal said that the PCTC management team keenly grasps the order demand of the PCTC ship model market segment, and strives to open up new markets. CSSC SDARI is one of the research and design units with the largest scale, the most abundant ship type and the highest market share in China’ship design sector. Especially in the PCTC domain, it can be called a particularly thriving tree. According to statistics, in the 80-PCTCs global orders signed in 2022, 47 were designed by SDARI, with a market share of 59%, ranking first in the world. The PCTC management team follows the development trend of PCTC and environmental protection requirements, taps the potential demand of shipowners, and launches the new 7000CEU LNG dual-fueled PCTC technical proposal developed and designed by SDARI, and promotes it to the market as the preferred ship model. In addition, it timely launches the 7000-9200CEU series optimized ship model developed and designed by SDARI. The principal said proudly,“The 7000-9200CEU LNG dualfueled PCTC ship model developed and designed by SDARI has become a market favorite.”
Opening the PCTC management team’s year-end answer sheet, a series of figures are particularly eyecatching: 32-ships construction orders, market share increasing to 25%; 47-ships design orders, market share topping the world; 7000CEU,8600CEU, 9200CEU... these figures not only reflect great schievementss made by the PCTC management team in the successful development of the large PCTC market since 2021, but also set a new goal for the “China Ship Strength” of the automobile transport and shipping industries in 2023.
