The 19th Asian Games hassuccessfully concluded in Hangzhou, with China topping the gold medaltally. What made me proud was notonly my country, but also my Englishteacher, Mr. Huang, who worked asan English announcer in it.
The role is among his sports presentation team which is of vital importanceto sports competitions. Such teams usually consist of producers, directors, announcers, MCs ( 司仪), videographer ( 摄像师), technical directors ( 技术总监), among others. “My team is responsible for how sport is presented inside the competition venues through the use of commentary ( 实况报道), music, videos, special lighting, and live entertainment,” he explains. It has recently evolved intothe in-venue execution ( 現场执行) of wider games engagement strategy and aseamless ( 无缝的) step within the spectator journey.
His team needs to cooperate with live broadcasts, such as CCTV, whichneeds to coordinate ( 协调; 配合) with the team on time. Obviously, its acomplex production that needs multi-department cooperation. “However, itsworth the efforts,” Mr. Huang says with pride. The reason is simple. The energyand reaction of the spectators and audience, who are excited by his sportspresentation team, can have a profound impact on the images that are sent aroundthe world. This altogether showcases the host countrys culture and vibrancy ( 活力) on the field on play.
Mr. Huangs experience and sharing make me more determined to masterthe world language, English, which is the key to unlock access to diverse culturesand facilitate cross-cultural communication. I wish to make my voice heard oninternational platforms in the future, just as he does.
