A caring bus shelter 爱心车棚

1 Ryder was born with a physical disability and has never been able to walk. He started

using a wheelchair when he was two years old. When he turned five， he started attending elementary school in June 2019， and every day had to be pushed to the end of the road to wait for his school bus by his parents Tim and Nikea. If he was running late for the bus， he had to wait for up to 15 minutes out whatever the weather was.

2 In September， Tim put up a patio （露臺） umbrella at the end of his driveway to

provide some shelter. However， with the wind and rain here in New England， it didn t help much and Ryder still got wet and cold. Desperately， Tim， who runs an electronics company， placed a post on Facebook， turning to his community to see if anyone could have an old bus hut （棚） which helps to protect Ryder from the bad weather.

3 After knowing about Ryder s problem， three local students in Bradford， Rhode Island， decided to build a new bus hut for Ryder during their construction lessons， consid ering that soon snow would be falling. They worked hard on the project for several weeks，

learning new skills through YouTube to create the structure. About $300 worth of wood was donated and the rest of the materials were purchased by Tim for $600. The hut

was so huge that it could accommodate both Ryder and one of his parents or a nurse comfortably， and was finally delivered to the home six weeks later on November 2.

4“We were shocked. It was much bigger than we expected. Ryder loved it. He did like to go out in it every day before school，” Tim said. The family sent a photo of Ryder in the bus shelter and thanked the teens for their hard work. This project brought his

community together， showing that there is kindness in this world.
