A General Survey of the Translation and Research of Tun-huang Pien-wen in the Anglo-American Worldby SUN Huijun & LIU Wenjie,p.1

While Tun-huang studies making its way to its prominence in the international academia,the translation and research of Tun-huang Pien-wen has turned out to be a topic of great academic interest.A popular literary genre originated in the Tang and Five Dynasties,Tun-huang Pien-wen is regarded as the predecessor of Baojuan,Tanci,Guci and Huaben novels.Being the earliest long narrative in China,the discovery of Pien-wen has made the rewriting of the history of Chinese literature necessary.In view of the remarkable achievements British and American Sinologists have made in the English translation and research of Tun-huang Pien-wen,the present research focuses on the whereabouts of the Tun-huang literature after being taken to Britain,makes a brief introduction to the cataloguing efforts,and then turns to Tun-huang Pien-wen’s translation and research in the English world,with special emphasis on different understandings of Pien-wen among three famous sinologists,namely Arthur Wayley,Eugene Eoyang and Victor Mair.Key words:Tun-huang manuscript,Pien-wen,Waley,Eoyang,Mair,oral narration

Theory and Application of Embodiment Research Paradigm in Linguisticsby LIN Zhengjun,p.34

Research paradigm is the fundamental framework and notion that scholars follow when carrying out research.Every research paradigm starts from a certain philosophical standpoint to construct the theoretical framework and to solve the corresponding systematic problems.The interrogation of embodiment philosophy and linguistics impels the production and development of cognitive linguistics to the embodiment perspective on language,arguing that language is both experiential and cognitive.This research further develops the embodiment perspective on language,proposing that language and its use presuppose embodiment and embodiment goes through the production,development and use of language.The embodiment perspective on language is more explanatory to the systematic problems of language and its use and more feasible to be the philosophical standpoint of linguistic research paradigm.The theoretical frameworks constructed from the embodiment perspective on language are sufficient to expound the motivation of language and its use.Key words:embodiment philosophy,research paradigm,theory,application

A Structural Approach to Code Dispositions,Technology Acceptance and Learning Engagement in Online English Learningby LI Zhengwei,MA Xiaolei,GAO Xiao & HU Xiaotang,p.63

This study explores the behavioral features of Chinese EFL learners in online English learning based on legitimation code theory,technology acceptance model and learning engagement.By adopting a structural equation modeling approach to the questionnaire data of 527 students from four colleges and universities,the study reveals the complex structural relationships between the code dispositions,technology acceptance and online learning engagement of Chinese EFL learners.The results manifest that there can be code conflicts between the learning philosophy of the EFL learners and the implicit requirements of online learning,resulting in a sense of frustration,anxiety and alienation.Therefore,it is essential to resolve code conflicts and improve code matching so as to enhance online English learning.Key words:legitimation code theory,technology acceptance model,learning engagement,Chinese EFL learner

Three Consciousnesses in the Translation of Historical Documents and the Teaching of the American Historical Documentsby WANG Bo,p.77

Translation is one of the most effective methods in teaching the course The American Historical Documents in that it facilitates understanding of the meaning and significance of those documents.The purpose of this article is threefold:examining the characteristics of American historical documents;discussing the three consciousnesses in the translation of American historical documents,namely,political consciousness,cultural consciousness and genre consciousness from the perspectives of communication,translation and language teaching;proposing targeted teaching strategies and recommendations.While this article mainly concerns American historical documents,hopefully it may also provide meaningful insights into the teaching of historical documents in general and further into the ideological and political education of university level courses.
