Dear Jack,
Everyone has different ways of spending his or her free time. As for me, I usually do reading when I have free time.
Most of the time, I read alone. When I was young, my parents were always busy working. Therefore, they bought me a lot of books to read.Through reading, I have made friends with The Three Little Pigs, Snow White, Little Red Riding Hood, and so on. Books are very handy to carry around with. It is easy for me to put them into my handbag. Moreover, I can read whenever and wherever. I can read when waiting for a bus or at break time in school or at work.
Reading also gives me a lot of fun. I get to know about other countries and their cultures. I can also get to know about other people's stories. In short, reading makes me happy, and helps me relax.
Write to tell me what you usually do in your spare time.
Yours,
Li Hua

Paragraph 1:
Jacob said, “I have some pocket money. I could go back to the store and pay for the gum.” At it, Mom said, “That's a great idea.I'll take you there.” Then Jacob ran upstairs and got his money jar. Mom helped him count out enough to pay for the gum. When they got to the store, Mom held Jacob's hand and took him to the manager's desk. She told the manager that Jacob had something to tell her. Jacob felt nervous. He pulled the package of gum out of his pocket and put it on the counter.
Paragraph 2:
“What are you trying to tell me?” asked the manager, surprised. Jacob said, “I'm sorry.I took that gum from the store without paying for it. I already opened the package of gum and ate some of it. So now I'd like to pay for all the gum.” Then Jacob put his money on the counter. The manager printed a receipt and smiled at him. “Thank you for being honest,”she said. Jacob felt much better as he and Mom walked back to the car.

My favourite book
Of all the books I have read, I love A Dream of Red Mansions best.
I deeply value the book. Firstly, the love story between Jia Baoyu and Lin Daiyu is moving. Secondly, the novel partly reveals the rise and decline of a famous family to its readers. What I also enjoy about the book is its language and writing style of Cao Xueqin, which had a profound effect on the writers of his times and later generations.
A Dream of Red Mansions has won my heart and it deserves reading.
Paragraph 1:
The professor asked whether I had read an article about this event on the newspapers. I shook my head and said no. “This is the first time that I have heard of this story,” I replied.“What you have written is brilliant. You've done a very good job,” the professor said. “I think you have a talent for writing things.” As saying this, he handed the writing assignment to me and I saw a bright A+ on the paper. Walking out of the teachers' office, I felt my heart soaring like a bird into the sky. The teacher's encouragement brightened my day.
Paragraph 2:
Since then, I began to devote myself to writing. Later I also participated in the school and city writing competitions, and received numerous awards and honors. All these achievements act as a motivation for me to dream of being a writer in the future. Now my dream has come true. I am one of the famous novelists in our city. The teacher's words will always be embedded in my heart because it is his encouragement that has set up a path for my future. Thank you, my dear teacher.
