June 29, 2021: Chinese President Xi Jinping, also general secretary of the CPC Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, hands out the “July 1 Medal” to 29 outstanding CPC members and take photos with them at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.
The July 1 Medal, the highest honor in the CPC, was awarded for the first time to outstanding Party members who had made contributions to the Party and the people to celebrate the centenary of the Party. President Xi delivered an important speech at the awarding ceremony. Over the past 100 years, generations of CPC members have worked hard and made selfless contributions in the pursuit of national independence and the liberation of the people, as well as in striving for a prosperous and strong country and the peoples well-being, Xi said. June 25, 2021: Ding Chuansheng, 80, and his wife Ruan Yongping, 78, show their honorary medals with Chinese characters meaning “50 glorious years as a CPC member” in Hefei, capital city of eastern Chinas Anhui Province.
To celebrate the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC, those who had been Party members for 50 years or more as of July 1, 2021 and consistently performed their duties were awarded this honorary medal. July 1, 2021: A total of 100,000 colorful balloons are released over Tiananmen Square during a grand gathering celebrating the 100th anniversary of the founding of the CPC in Beijing.
The “giant ship” theme resulted in Tiananmen Rostrum, Changan Avenue, and Tiananmen Square becoming integral parts of a “sailing ship.” At the bow of the “ship,” the red arch bridge supported a 7.1-meter-high and 7.1-meter-wide Party emblem. At 6:48 p.m. on June 17, 2021, all three Chinese astronauts, Nie Haisheng, Liu Boming, and Tang Hongbo aboard the Shenzhou-12 spacecraft, entered the core module Tianhe, or Harmony of Heavens, officially commencing manned operation of Chinas own space station.
On July 4, astronauts Liu Boming and Tang Hongbo both exited the Tianhe module to conduct extravehicular activities (EVAs). In new-generation China-engineered spacesuits Feitian (meaning“flying to space”), Liu and Tang spent nearly seven hours outside the station and completed all planned tasks. It was the second spacewalk performed by Chinese astronauts after the one by Zhai Zhigang during the Shenzhou-7 space mission 13 years ago, as well as the first spacewalk outside Chinas new space station.
