Abstract:Due to the influence of Corona Virus (COVID-19),many students have to learn their courses online through various network platforms and Apps.In order to ensure excellent teaching qualities,many teachers working in colleges and universities began to choose appropriate network platforms and effective teaching mode to carry out online teaching.This study uses smart phones as terminals to construct an online teaching model based on“ICVE (Intelligent Center of Vocational Education) App+Tencent Class”for public English teaching,new ideas and directions for the reform and innovation of modern public English class teaching in higher vocational colleges are proposed.

In recent years,with the booming of“Internet +”and the big data,online teaching platforms have presented a situation of a hundred flowers blooming in China,such as Rain Class,cloud class,Tencent Conference,Tencent Class,class party,ICVE (Intelligent Center of Vocational Education) platform etc.The rich resources in these platforms can meet the needs of teachers and students[1].But what kind of online teaching model will generate the best teaching effect? It is question worth thinking.Nowadays,smart phones have become an indispensable part of college students' life and study.So how to turn mobile phones into learning tools in English teaching and guide students to use mobile phones for autonomous learning so as to enhance students' English learning effect? This study attempts to combine the ICVE App with Tencent class,and make full use of information means to optimize the effect of vocational English online teaching.
ICVE App is an intelligent teaching tool integrated with artificial intelligence technology.Based on the mobile internet environment,it helps to achieve the real-time interaction,resource sending and homework assignments between teachers and students.Students can learn independently on mobile devices.Teachers can collect and monitor students’ learning behavior in real time,and make process assessment.The App also provides teachers with high-quality teaching resources and research data.The ICVE App has been widely used in online teaching in Higher Vocational Colleges and has been highly praised.The ICVE App enjoys plenty of advantages.1)its diversified interaction activities between teachers and students,such as check-in,asking questions,brainstorming and discussion in class;2) With the help of mobile terminals,students,teachers and teaching resources are effectively combined to complete diversified mixed teaching;3) It broadens the scope of learning.Learning is no longer restricted by time and space; 4) Learning process management is intelligent.With the help of the data statistical analysis ability of mobile app,we can fully master students’ learning before,in and after class,and adjust the teaching content and teaching methods of the course according to practical problems to ensure the teaching quality.
Tencent class is a professional online open learning platform developed by Tencent.It is an online class dedicated to teachers’online teaching and students' interactive learning.Its major advantages are as follows:1) Tencent has accumulated audio and video capabilities for many years and has a smooth and high-quality class live broadcast effect;2) Its certification process is simple.It is easy to start classes and study.It owns the function of playback,which provides convenience for after-class learning;3) It supports PPT synchronous demonstration,screen sharing and other teaching methods;4) It simulates the real class and sets up modes such as“asking questions”“raising hands”and“discussion area”,so as to facilitate the timely interaction between teachers and students.It promotes the real-time communication and timely feedback in the traditional class.In a word,Tencent class simulates the offline class to the greatest extent,providing learners with a real class scenario.
Both software can be used on smart phones or tablets PCs.Students can download the apps directly from the mobile application market in class.In view of the respective advantages of ICVE App and Tencent class,it is necessary to combine the two.In this way,we can develop our strengths and complement our strengths,so as to achieve a better effect of online class teaching.
The English teacher downloads and installs the ICVE App and Tencent Class of teacher’s version before class.He or she should be familiar with the functions of the two software.At the same time,he or she should set up QQ group for students and use the ICVE App to set up courses,and then send the class invitation code to QQ group for students to join in the cloud class.Through ICVE platform,the English teacher designs the class in advance and sends PPT and some learning materials.He or she can set pre-class test topics,discussion topics,questionnaire content and so on to conduct a survey on students’ English learning status.Based on diffierent English competences of the class,the English teacher assigns the pre-class homework.He or she also needs to establish the exercises bank on ICVE platform in advance,so that students can consolidate contents learned in time through doing the exercises after class.
Students download ICVE App and Tencent Class from the mobile App market and install them for later use during class.Students are required to switch between the ICVE App and Tencent Class on the Smartphone page.At the same time,they should join in the QQ group and ICVE App class beforehand.
The English teacher opens the Tencent Class to input the course name,and invites students to enter the Tencent English class by sharing the QR code of the class or link to the QQ group.In the first 5 minutes of class,the teacher issues the check-in task through ICVE App to check the students’ attendance.Then he or she has class through the Tencent class screen sharing mode,Office PPT playing and other means to achieve a live-broadcasting effect.When he or she explains content on PPT,the teacher can adopt the“hands up mode”of Tencent class to connect the microphone with students and ask them questions or communicate with them.He or she can also mark the content through“sketchpad mode”,so that students can grasp the key points;He or she can also type words in the“QQ editing area”to discuss with students in class;If he wants to check the students’understanding,he can use the“Answer card”to ask questions.In short,the Tencent class enables real-time communication and timely feedback between teachers and students as well as among students themselves just like in offline classes.It provides learners with a real class scenario,so as to achieve the actual class teaching effect[2].
After class,the English teacher assigns homework through the ICVE App and evaluates students’ homework at any time on the mobile phone to grasp the problems students encountered in the learning process.The teacher urges the students who hasn’t completed their tasks,and remind the students who are absent from class or late for the class.Using the statistical function of the ICVE platform and Tencent class,the English teacher sets the weight of each aspect in advance as the students’ daily performance (accounting for 40% of the final score) by integrating the scores of attendance,learning course resources,class interaction,tests,homework and other aspects.Combined with the final examination (60% of the final score),students’ overall college English course grade is given.
(1)In the process of having class on the ICVE App,there are occasional overload of App users,resulting in network congestion and affecting the quality of online class teaching.
(2)For the Tencent class,although the sounds and screen pages are clear,the interaction between teachers and students is relatively limited.At present,it only has the functions of discussion area,raising hands and answer card;Online learning behaviors such as questionnaires,tests and examinations are not supported;
(3)It is difficult to supervise students’ learning.The teacher have no idea whether the students learn in the class or just let the screen playing without watching or listening.So students’ class behavior completely depends on self-discipline.
(1)In order to ensure the smooth progress of online English teaching,colleges should strengthen the maintenance of campus network,and the ICVE platform should strengthen the construction and update management of hardware and software to ensure that ICVE app is used smoothly[3].
(2)In addition to ensuring clear pictures and sounds,the Tencent class also needs to provide richer classroom activity modes.
(3)English teachers should supervise and evaluate all the activities before and after class to enhance students’ self-discipline and promote active participation[4].
In summary,the combined application of ICVE App and Tencent class can complement each other,and achieve a better effect of online classroom teaching.In the context of normalization of pandemic prevention and control,it is of great significance to students’online learning and autonomous learning.
