When you are travelling, it is very important to learn about different cultures in order not to embarrass (使……尴尬) yourself or make local people unhappy.
Greeting
We Chinese like shaking hands when we meet someone. While in Thailand, people greet each other by putting their hands together and bowing (鞠躬) slightly. In South America, you hug (拥抱) each other when you meet someone. In the Middle East, Arabs greet each other by touching nose. In American and some European countries, people kiss on the cheeks when meet each other.
Talking
In Arab, if you want to talk to others, you can stand close to your friends. However, it is impolite to stand too close to others in England. In China, you are familiar (熟悉的) with someone, you can even hold one of their hands when you are talking.
Eating
In China, it is not polite to make noise while eating because Chinese think only animals eat in that way. But in Japan, especially (尤其是) when you are eating Lamian, you have to make some sound to show that you like the food very much. In some countries of South Africa, people like eating with their hands because they think it is close to nature.
In a word, it is good for you to learn something about the local culture, which can help you avoid making some mistakes. As the old saying goes like this, “Man who travels far knows more.”
