“You have no flying skills at all!” he said to the swans. “All you can do is to move your wings. Can you turn over in the air? No, thats beyond you. Lets have a flying competition. Ill show you what real flying is!”
One of the swans, a strong young male, took up the challenge. The crow flew up and began to show his skills. He flew in circles, performed other flying tricks, and then came down and looked proudly at the swan.
Now it was the swans turn. He flew up, and began flying over the sea. The crow flew after him, making all kinds of comments about his flying. They flew on and on till they couldnt see the land and there was nothing but water on all sides. The crow was making fewer and fewer comments. He was now so exhausted that he found it hard to stay in the air, and had to struggle (挣扎) to keep himself from falling into the water.
The swan pretended not to notice, and said, “Why do you keep touching the water, brother? Is that another trick?”

British-designed electronic newspaper which is made of plastic and no larger than a table mat is to enter the market next year. The new newspaper was conceived (想出) by Cambridge University scientists. They came up with the idea of replacing silicon chips with plastic ones. It is being developed by Plastic Logic, a company based in Dresden, Germany.
“It looks just like a table mat, and is as light as a magazine. But you can download hundreds of newspapers at the touch of a button, and read them quite safely,” the BBC reported on its website.
The plastic paper is produced in a safe “clean room” at the Plastic Logic factory, which opened last month as the worlds first plastic-electronics factory. Every part of the product, from the screen to the electronics, is made of plastic. And it is described by engineer Dean Baker as “top quality”. Baker said the plastic newspaper could help solve the problem of waste material associated with traditional newspapers.
“Theres a huge amount of waste. We have paper distributed (分發) all over the country each day and then thrown into the bin. This doesnt need to happen any more. All of the copies could be made electronically and stored on a single e-reader with the appearance of paper,” he said.

Last month, Justin Valdez, a college student, was shot in a subway station in San Francisco. The surveillance video (监控录像) showed that before Justin was killed, the killer pulled out his gun several times, and even wiped his nose with it. However, nobody noticed the killer. The surrounding passengers all focused on their cellphones.
We may see the same scene everywhere in our life: in subway stations, restaurants, elevators and so on, people are watching their cellphones. From a family reunion to a date with a friend, people couldnt stop checking their Twitter and Facebook on the cellphones and ignoring the persons in front completely. Phubbing not only involves young people, but also the elderly and kids.
“Phubbing” is a new term which comes from the words “phone” and “snub (冷落)”. It describes the habit of snubbing someone in favor of a cellphone. The word “phubbing” was included in the Australian National Dictionary in 2012. Obviously, the indifference and rudeness of the information age are spreading globally.
A Stop Phubbing campaign website has been set up. You can find the slogan of the website as follows, “Stop twittering, stop posting photos… enjoy your food, enjoy the music and respect others.”
Phubbing appears harmless. However, it does influence our life. Jimmy, an epicure (美食家), wrote in his blog, “I can no longer focus on what I am eating since I started twittering. My skill of food photography has improved very fast, while my interest in food drops as a result.” Let us put down our cellphones and re-enjoy the real taste of our food and the warmth of interpersonal communication.

33. What will probably happen when you ask a phubbing person
for help?
A. He will pay no attention to you.
B. He will be very angry with you.

While it is impossible to live completely free of stress, it is possible to prevent stress as well as reduce its effect when it cant be avoided.
●
When you are nervous, angry or upset, try releasing the pressure through exercise or physical activity. Running, walking, playing tennis, and working in your garden are just some of the activities you might try.
● Take care of yourself.
If you easily get angry and cant sleep well enough, or if you are not eating properly, it will be more likely that you will fall into stressful situations. If stress repeatedly keeps you from sleeping, you should consult a doctor.
● Make time for yourself.
Schedule time for both work and entertainment. Dont forget that play can be just as important to your overall well-being as work. Go window-shopping or work on a hobby. Allow yourself at least a half hour each day to do something you enjoy.
●
Stress can result from disorganization and a feeling that “theres so much to do, and not enough time”. Trying to take care of everything at once can be too much for you and as a result, you may not achieve anything. Instead, make a list of everything you have to do; then do one thing at a time, checking off each task as it is completed. Set out to do the most important task first.
