1 Introduction
With the presentation of the English key competences,promoting the development of students key competences has become one of the major initiatives to deepen the reform of English Curriculum.Furthermore,according to basic ideas in the curriculum,it is quite evident that the effective cultivation of students critical thinking ability is not only urgent under the given circumstances but also conducive to develop students key competences.
2 Continuation Task and Critical Thinking Cultivation
The step of planning involves raising questions and thinking out resolution; the step of monitoring writing involves valuating its resolution.Continuation task is one encouraging innovation and creation,through which learners are transferring and improving different critical thinking strategies and skills.
3 Related Countermeasures
3.1 Using diversified types of reading materials
In English learning,interesting materials applied in reading and writing should be chosen to make students willing to read and continue them and widen their view.Besides,diversified types of materials should be applied to make sure that students thinking pattern could be varied with knowledge input rather than fossilized.
3.2 Applying varied writing tasks
Different types of writing tasks could be promoted to cultivate students writing desire like cooperated group writing,chain writing,continuation task and so on.Besides,to exercise students various critical thinking sub-dispositions,various writing themes could be applied such as memos,poetry,lectures,business letters,advertisement,picture writing and so on.
3.3 Adopting various and reliable assessment standards
As for assessment methods,self-evaluation and evaluation among each other could be applied in class.With self-evaluation,students can comb his thinking process again and have chances to find grammatical or logical bugs himself.With evaluation among each other,writers can defend their own ideas using persuasive evidence.It is also a good chance to see whether their questioning and analyzing ability has been cultivated.
4 Conclusion
The aim of the study is to explore how to use continuation task to cultivate high school students critical thinking ability in English class,and the author proposed three countermeasures:①Use diversified types of reading materials;②Apply varied writing tasks;③Adopt various and reliable assessment standards.
