Romania Holds 1st TCM International Conference

Romanias first International Conference on Traditional Chinese Medicine （TCM） opened on June 6 in Sibiu， with the theme of “Building B&R Civilization， Sharing Healthy Lives.”

“The convening of the conference is of great significance to the development of TCM culture in Europe， especially in Central and Eastern Europe，”Professor Constantin Oprean， the Romanian director of the Confucius Institute at Lucian Blaga University of Sibiu， said at the opening ceremony of the conference jointly hosted by the Romanian university， the Yangzhou TCM Hospital， and Shaanxi University of Chinese Medicine.

Oprean emphasized that the conference would not only be the beginning of high-end exchanges of TCM culture between China and Romania， but also start vigorous promotion of the culture in Romania and neighboring countries. It is believed that more students would choose TCM-related majors to study in the future.

Xia Lei， educational representative of the Chinese Embassy in Romania， said that TCM is an important cultural treasure of the Chinese people and the ongoing conference constitutes an important platform for exchange and cooperation， integrating academic resources and improving academic standards to promote the quality， safety， and accessibility of TCM in Romania， an important country along the Belt and Road.

During the three-day conference， participating scholars conducted extensive dialogue and exchange around the theme of the conference.

China-Myanmar Tourism and Culture Week Inaugurated in Myanmar

The China-Myanmar Tourism and Culture Week was inaugurated in Yangon， Myanmar on June 3， with the aim of deepening exchanges and cooperation in the sectors of tourism and culture as well as promoting friendship between peoples of the two countries.

Speaking at the opening ceremony， Charge daffaires of the Chinese Embassy Li Xiaoyan stressed the importance of the two countries cooperation under the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative， saying that the two countries entered a new phase of cooperation in tourism and culture to deepen the fraternal friendship between their people.

Li called for taking the opportunity of China-Myanmar Tourism and Culture Week to expand cooperation in anticipation of the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries next year and strive for better bilateral ties on the basis of the existing friendly relations.

Rector of the University of Culture and Arts of Myanmar U Aung Naing Myint expressed the belief that the event would consolidate friendship between the two countries and serve as a foundation for enhancing cooperation in the sectors of tourism and culture.

Mandarin Speech Contest for Students Held in Ottawa

A Mandarin speech contest for primary and secondary schools students was held in Ottawa， Canada on June 9.

The competition， dubbed“The Roots of the Distance，”had more than 60 students participating， who were divided into four groups based on age. An audience of over 200 people came to watch and gave their support.

Crowded into the chamber room of Ottawa Centrepoint Library with their Chinese teachers and parents standing by to take photos， the children gave a threeminute presentation in Mandarin in turn on topics ranging from their love for parents to their interests and hobbies.

The contest is designed to provide students with an opportunity to show their Chinese language ability， to encourage more Canadian students to learn Chinese and to promote mutual understanding and communication among various schools， provinces and cultures， according to the Chinese Teachers Association of Canada（CTAC）.

It offers an opportunity for K-12 students in Ottawa to show off their talents in Chinese language and culture， said a spokesperson of the CTAC.

The contest was organized by the non-profit CTAC and language schools in Ottawa.
