Unsurprisingly the Blue Caves owe their name to their spectacular blue waters and are one of the most famous natural attractions on Zakynthos. Some caves can only be visited by boat while others are only accessible to expert swimmers and divers.

扎金索斯岛(Zakynthos)面积402平方公里，人口约3万。其西部为荒凉的石灰岩山地(海拔200—500米)，有许多下沉山洞和陡立海崖，最高峰弗拉希奥纳斯海拔756米。中央为肥沃平原，东部有低丘。主要城市扎金索斯位于东岸。南岸海湾深曲、悬崖峻拔。岛名取自一位阿卡迪亚(Arcadia)首领。公元前5世纪历史学家修斯提底斯称此岛是由伯罗奔尼撒半岛的亚该亚人(Achaean)开拓的。
