Hottest Chinese words，characters of 2017 announced

由国家语言资源监测与研究中心和商务印书馆主办的2017年最热门汉字词近日出炉，“享”“新时代”等入围。

A shortlist of the 20 hottest Chinese words and Chinese characters of 2017 has been announced.

Words and characters on the list related to domestic topics include “share”,“cloud”,“new era”,and “kindergarten”， while those related to international issues include“nuclear”,“intelligence”,“Alpha Go”,and “gravitational wave”.

The campaign,whose organizers include the National Language Resource Monitoring and Research Center and the Commercial Press,received thousands of different words and characters proposed between Nov.20 and Dec.4 by netizens nationwide.

The campaign’s website got more than 200 million clicks from netizens,whose picks were discussed by a panel of experts before the shortlist was decided and released Saturday.

The shortlist reflects people’s lives and the hot issues that have come up in the past year,both in China and abroad,according to the experts.

This year’s campaign is the 12thof its kind.It aims to encourage people to record their lives and depict changes in society and the world in words.

名单上的字词与国内话题有关，包括“享”“云”“新时代”和“幼儿园”，与国际问题有关的包括 “核”“智能”“阿尔法狗”和“引力波”。

此次活动的主办方包括国家语言资源监测与研究中心和商务印书馆，11月20日至12月4日间，共收到全国网友提出的数千个不同的字词。

活动的网址得到了网友2亿多次点击，在候选名单被决定和周六发布前，一组专家对挑选进行了讨论。

据专家介绍，候选名单反映人们的生活和在过去一年中外出现的热点问题。

今年的活动为第12届。其目的是鼓励人们记录他们的生活，用词语描述社会和世界的变化。
