Innovation system becoming perfect. Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding obtained various qualifications of State and Shanghai Enterprise Technology Center, Shanghai High-Tech Enterprise, National Accreditation Laboratory, National Defense Science and Technology Industry Accreditation Laboratory, Research Center of Deep Sea Equipment and Material and Protection Engineering Technology, etc.The Company has almost 900 technical personnel, including 2 Shanghai industry leaders, 21 senior experts, 9 doctors and 95 masters.

Continuous enhancement of product innovation capability. Since the founding,Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding has set up the goal of “creating green brand and building first-class product”, inherited the design concept of “green, low carbon,energy conservation and environmental friendliness” and finally grasped core technology of high-technology ship and high value-added product sectors.Developed products include: Capesize bulk carrier, Aphramax tanker, Suezmax tanker, VLCC, ultra-large container carrier, VLGC, VLOC, etc. Capesize bulk carriers have been developed to eighth generation 210K BC, deadweight tonnage has substantially increased,comprehensive fuel consumption,hull form and EEDI have been further optimized, reaching the goal of “continuous upgrade, leading the market”. VLCC has been developed to fourth generation, not only meeting the requirements of HCSR and Tier III rules,but also reaching the standard of “always maintaining world first class”.
The early completion and delivery of 18000TEU and 20000TEU ultralarge container carriers broke the Korean monopoly in the area. 21000TEU and 22000TEU ultra-large container carriers undertaken by batch are the largest container ships ever undertaken by China. 83000cbm and 84000cbm VLGCs are generally recognized high-tech and high value-added ships, and the smooth delivery of such ships means Waigaoqiao Shipbuilding has stridden into the large gas carrier manufacturing club at one stroke. The Company undertook 14 second generation 400000 dwt VLOC in 2016, making Shanghai become the world VLOC construction center.

Combining with the intelligent manufacture technological process, renovating existing equipment and facilities, expanding application scope of cutting robot and welding robot, expediting straight assembly line upgrading and improving intelligent degree of equipment and facilities.

Lay emphasis on shipyard internal wireless network,promoting shipyard logistics wireless rapid application; carrying out Internet of Things technological R&D, and building industrial chain service platform; carrying out technical research, setting up master data management center to assist in decision-making analysis; carrying out intelligent manufacture technology research and building smart shipbuilding demonstration area.
Assembling excellent innovative talents and teams. In eco-friendly ship form development, luxury cruiser design and manufacture,ocean engineering equipment design and manufacture, IT application integration with industrialization and intelligent manufacture innovation platform construction, using the State“Recruitment Programs of Global Talents” to introduce and train chief experts and give experts research fund and research condition support with a view to driving team development.
