with suspect Brendt christensen charged with kidnapping visiting scholar Zhang yingying in the united states, and the sexual assault of chinese architecture student li yangjie in Germany, alarm bells have been going off over the safety of students whose native country is the worlds largest source of international students.

every year, hundreds of millions of chinese people go abroad to travel, study, do business and work. china has long been the worlds largest outbound tourist market. unfortunately, despite available safety tips, the safety awareness of many chinese citizens is still weak while traveling or studying overseas.

Facing cultural differences and an unfamiliar environment, they should stay alert of potential security risks while learning to take proper precautions.
