What is Diwali?
Diwali is the festival of lights. It is
India’s biggest and most important holiday of the year.
When is Diwali?
The fi ve-day festival usually falls between the middle of October and the middle of November.

What do people do on Diwali?
Day 1: Clean homes and do some shopping.
Day 2: Light rows of candles and diyas around houses. Use colored rice, sand and fl ower petals to make Rangoli on the fl oors in living rooms.
Day 3: It is the main day of the festival. People open their doors and windows to invite Lakshmi in. Families gather together to watch fi reworks.
Day 4: Families will prepare food at home for when guests come to exchange gifts.
Day 5: Brothers visit their married sisters.Sisters prepare meals for their brothers at home.

蓝果丽地画(rangoli)
蓝果丽是印度的一种传统地画艺术,一般用手工绘制于家门口或庙门口。相传很久以前,有一个王国的公主丢失了她心爱的项链,于是国王就通令全国:谁找到项链就重重有赏。项链被一个樵夫找到后,送回了王宫。国王很高兴,就问樵夫要什么金银财宝。樵夫说:“我不要什么财宝,只要您下令,明天晚上除了我家之外都不准点灯。”国王虽然觉得这个要求很奇怪,但还是答应了下来。原来,这个晚上正是财富女神拉什米一年一度下凡的日子。当拉什米女神来到王国,只见到处一片漆黑,只有樵夫家门口点了盏小油灯吸引她的目光,地上用米粉画出了个小脚印为她引路。拉什米毫不犹豫,直奔樵夫家。女神目光所到之处,财源滚滚而来。女神给樵夫一家带来财运,樵夫从此过上了好日子。从此,家家效仿,画蓝果丽地画和点油灯的习俗也就流传了下来。
