在欧美人的婚礼上，除了婚礼进行曲，也有很多经典的流行音乐登堂入室，伴随新娘走向红毯的另一端，其中一首婚礼常客就是《我可曾表白》（Have I Told You Lately）。

歌手Rod Stewart

很多歌手都演唱过这首歌，其中最有影响力的应该是英国摇滚歌手Rod Stewart于1993年推出的版本。正是由于Rod Stewart的演唱和推广，这首歌得以在1993年的英美歌曲排行榜上进入了前五名，同时歌坛也对这首款款情深的歌曲有了重新认识。

歌曲中，歌手通过反复追问“Have I told you lately that I love you”来表达他对爱人的无限深情。在他眼里，他的爱人无人能及，为他带来欢乐，驱走忧愁，让他在每个清晨的阳光里充满希望，感到慰藉。歌手不仅通过歌曲表达了对爱人的真挚情感，更通过一句“Have I told you lately that I love you”，道出了歌手隐藏在心中对爱人长相厮守、日夜相伴的感恩和几许愧疚。言外之意是说“我爱你，请原谅我很久没有告诉你”。

据说，Rod Stewart在一次演唱这首歌时走心到动容失声，完全淹没在他对时任妻子—演员兼模特Rachel Hunter的情感里。然而不幸的是，他们的婚姻在持续了九年后于1999年划上了休止符。虽然他们的婚姻没有善终，但并不妨碍这首歌所传达出的真实情感和美好本意。

然而对于原唱而言，这首歌的本意却并非为爱情所写。这首歌最早发表于1989年，出自于北爱尔兰著名歌手兼创作人Van Morrison的专辑Avalon Sunset。据说Van Morrison创作这首歌曲的初衷是希望借此表达他对上帝的爱和感恩，他本人也承认这首歌反映了很多精神层面的东西。从歌曲副歌部分的歌词看，“Theres a love thats divine / And its yours and its mine like the sun / And at the end of the day / We should give thanks and pray / To the one to the one”也似乎更像是對上帝的表白。

英国诗人兼音乐学家Brian Hinton谈到这首歌时曾表示：“One of the finest love songs of the century， which I remember devastated me when I first heard it， as it seemed both something never quite said before， and yet a song I felt I had known forever. Earthly love transmutes into that for God， just like in Dante （但丁，意大利诗人）， ‘theres a love thats divine and its yours and its mine.”

虽然原创者的初衷是向上帝致意，但几经演绎，听众也更广泛地把这首歌定义为情歌范畴了。其实这也无妨，无论是对上帝还是对爱人，在关于真情与感激的表达上，语言都是相通的，情感也是近似的。本来爱就一个字，无论天地界限，它是属于全人类、全宇宙的。
