Chinese Aluminum Enterprises Reshuffled in Ranking in 2014

It has been learned that across China there are now 31 aluminum enterprise groups, with a total production capacity of 29.85 million tonnes, which covers about 80% existing production capacity, enterprise (Group) average production capacity is 960,000 tonnes, single factory’s production capacity is 460,000 tonnes on average.

Judging from enterprise capacity, the enterprise with the largest production capacity is Weiqiao Group, which has a capacity of 4.02 million tonnes, it is followed by Chinalco with 3.80 million tonnes, Xinfa Group ranks third. Judging from the ranking list, the concentration degree of China’s aluminum industry is rising, the capacity concentration degree of top ten has reached 77%, the concentration degree of top 15 is 88%, the concentration degree of top 20 is 95%.

If listed according to aluminum production cell type, 400KA, 300KA and 240KA cell types are the most frequently used three types currently being used. wherein, 400KA and 300KA are the existing mainstream cell types, their combined percentage reaches 64% production capacity, 500KA accounts for 17% of production capacity, 200KA grade and below accounts for only 19%. Specifically: 400KA grade above accounts for 38%; 300KA grade above accounts for 26%; 500KA grade above accounts for 17%; 200KA grade above accounts for 16.5%; 200KA below accounts for 2.5%.

Judging by province, among the 16 provinces, Shandong ranks top, Xinjiang second, Henan is third. The last three are Chongqing, Fujian, and Hebei, totaling 410,000 tonnes. Interestingly, Henan has long been China’s big province of aluminum capacity, for a long time it ranked top nationwide, however, as the efforts of adjusting industrial structure in Henan intensified, this province’s aluminum capacity was being overtaken by late-comers, in August this year, Henan’s production capacity still ranked second nationwide, but only three months later, it was downgraded by another notch to the third nationwide.

Compared with ten years ago when the number of aluminum enterprises in China reached more than 120 at the peak time, currently there are only 31 enterprise groups (64 manufacturers), more than half enterprise have been eliminated.
