We Have Only One Earth

Humankind relies on the earth to thrive， while on the other hand， they enrich the earth. Recent years have witnessed the global warming， deterioration of air quality， soil pollution and over-exploitation of natural resources etc which bring damage and threat to peoples lives and natural environment.

World Earth Day is a world-wide environmental protection initiative. On April 22， 1970， Gaylord Nelson and Dennis Hayes in the US advocated and organized the World Earth Day involving hundreds of thousands of people. This important initiative appealed people to create a clean， simple and peaceful living environment. The World Earth Day， on April 22， 1990， was celebrated by 200 million people in over 140 countries. Since 1990， our country has carried out the campaign to commemorate the “World Earth Day” annually.

The 2015 World Earth Day is themed “Cherish the resources on earth and change the development path----improve the efficiency of resources implementation”. The special topic by “Knowledge is Power” aims to appeal people to care about and protect the environment around us. A small action by each can accumulate as a force of change hence protecting our homeland—the earth.
