How to write and revise English articles about psychiatry

Training course at the Shanghai Mental Health Center, July 4-6, 2015

This course will be conducted by the editorial team of theShanghai Archives of Psychiatry(SHARP). This journal is the first psychiatric journal published in both English and Chinese and is indexed in several international databases, so the editorial team, which includes several native-English speakers, has rich experience in translating, writing, and revising academic articles about psychiatric topics in English. In addition to providing practical guidance in the writing of English-language manuscripts, the course will also introduce the current status of publication of psychiatric research from mainland China in international journals and discuss the common misconceptions of Chinese researchers about the submission process to Science Citation Index (SCI) journals. For participants who submit an unpublished English draft of a full manuscript prior to June 15, 2015, Professor Michael Phillips (the co-editor-in-chief of SHARP) will provide a minimum of two hours of individual supervision in how to revise the manuscript (each participant can only submit one article). Participants who complete this training will get 4 ‘Shanghai-level’ Continuing Education credits.

The course fee is 1000 RMB, which includes any printed materials but does not include travel or accommodation expenses. [Participants who submit full drafts of articles that are subsequently submitted and accepted by theShanghai Archives of Psychiatrywill be reimbursed the full course fee at the time the article is published.] There will be a maximum of 15 participants in the course, so after 15 applicants have confirmed their participation by paying the registration fee the course will be closed.
