Qijiang Plans to Build 50 Billion Yuan Industrial Cluster for Transport-use Aluminum

The reporter learned from the China International Transport-use Aluminum Forum 2015 that 5 years later Qijiang District is expected to develop transport-use aluminum industrial cluster with annual output of 50 billion yuan.

According to statistics, last year 1 in every 9 automobile OEM manufacturers nationwide came from our city, meanwhile our city’s motorbike output also ranked among top positions nationwide, it has become a big producing place of transport-use aluminum nationwide.

According to Ren Xudong, Executive Vice President of China Nonferrous Metals Industry Association, aluminum material for transport equipment use is 30% above lighter than steel material in terms of weight, and the safety coefficient is the same. For this reason, use of aluminum alloy by the transport equipment manufacture industry to achieve light weight represents a major trend, the aluminum material consumed by transport equipment manufacture industry now accounts for about 1/3 of national total output.

Chen Jinshan, District Head of Qijiang District, said at the Forum that at present, this district has constructed 340,000 t/a aluminum project in Beidu Aluminum Industrial Park, and attracted over 30 downstream enterprises to enter Qijiang, including motorbike manufacturers with annual output of 1.05 million vehicles and automobile OEM enterprises with annual output of 300,000 vehicles.

According to preliminary estimate, by 2020, the annual capacity of aluminum project at Beidu Aluminum Industrial Park will reach 800,000 tonnes, in which half above will be supplied to transportation equipment manufacture industry. By that time, Qijiang will develop industrial cluster with annual output value of 50 billion yuan centering on transport-use aluminum, and become a key transport-use aluminum supply base in West China.
