With jasminum sambac being in full blossom, the CAEXPO Indonesian Exhibition was held in Jakarta in May 8-10, 2015 as scheduled. It is another overseas exhibition after the CAEXPO Thai Exhibition, which is CAEXPO’s first overseas exhibition. By “going global”, the CAEXPO set up a broader platform for China-ASEAN economic and trade cooperation and also improved its own influence and level of service. More great shows would be on the stage as CAEXPO Indonesian Exhibition made a successful appearance.

With a vast territory and a large population, Indonesia is abundant in natural and labor resources. Its crude oil, pulp, palm oil and forest resources have huge market potentials in China. Machinery, electronics, textiles and durable consumer goods from China also earn good ratings in Indonesia. Enterprises of both sides enjoy numerous opportunities for business cooperation.

In addition, Indonesia has strengthened its construction to break through the bottleneck of backward infrastructure. It is predicted that at least $164 billion in infrastructure development is needed in Indonesia by 2015. Due to the insufficient fiscal revenue, most of funds for Indonesian infrastructure building come from private enterprises and foreign investment, providing a direction for China’s enterprises to invest in Indonesia. Chinese citizens have been granted to visa-upon-arrival in Indonesia since 2005, making people-to-people exchanges between the two sides more convenience.

2015 marks the 65th anniversary of the establishment of China-Indonesia diplomatic ties. In the past 65 years, bilateral exchanges and cooperation have made achievements and progresses in such fields as tourism, finance, civil aviation, science and technology, education and health. China has become Indonesia’s largest trading partner, and Indonesia is one of China’s major trade partners in ASEAN. Also, 2015 is an important year for advancing the construction of the 21st Century “Maritime Silk Road”. As an important component of “One Belt, One Road”, Indonesia was selected as the venue of CAEXPO’s overseas exhibition, which conforms to the requirement of deepening China-Indonesia friendly ties and is also the market demand for in-depth development of bilateral trade. It will help further bridge the markets of two sides and realize advantageous complementarities and trade facilitation.

Against this background, the CAEXPO Indonesian Exhibition is rich in content with distinct features. It has merchandise trade, investment cooperation, physical display and image setting. China’s competitive industries and featured commodities like mechanical and electrical products, light industry products, foodstuff, native and livestock products, textile and apparel, building materials and Indonesia’s typical food and beverage, furniture, household items and handicrafts were all showed here. Chinese environmental protection science and technology, building materials and Indonesian teak furniture, health care products, medicinal herbs and handicrafts were well received. It attracted both merchants and customers, and better promoted the cooperation between enterprises.

Give a Thumbs-up to Indonesian Exhibition

Indonesian exhibition won the support of organizers and local business associations. Enterprises, as important participants of Indonesian Exhibition, were direct beneficiaries and great supporters. Their active participation guaranteed the success of this overseas exhibition.

Indonesian Exhibition gathered several strong Chinese investors and Indonesian enterprises who want to explore Chinese market via the CAEXPO. There have been a total number of 151 booths and 85 enterprises, among which 32 were foreign enterprises with 35 booths. Chinese participants from Beijing, Zhejiang, Jiangsu, Shanghai, Guangdong, Anhui, Tianjin and Shandong, and the institutions like China-ASEAN Technology Transfer Center, Aluminum Corporation of China Limited, Alnan Aluminium Co., Ltd., ChinaTaiping Insurance Holdings Company Limited, China National Heavy Duty Truck Group Company Limited, Guangxi Investment Group Co., Ltd., Dongfeng Liuzhou Motor Co., Ltd., Liuzhou LMZ Co., Ltd., Guangxi Construction Engineering Group, Guangxi Yulin Pharmaceutical Group Co., Ltd. and Liuzhou Chemical Industry Co., Ltd. all attended the exhibition.

During the Indonesian Exhibition, enterprises actively displayed their advantages and competitive products, and sought cooperation. To meet enterprises’ needs and promote pragmatic cooperation, the exhibition organizers also improved the level of service, provided more opportunities for exchanges and set up a wide and direct platform for enterprises to seize “One Belt, One Road” market and expand their circles of friends.

The organizer introduced that three business promotion meetings were held concurrently with over 20 Chinese attendees related to machinery and equipment, chemical industry and building materials. The district for trade talks was set up as well, which was equipped with Chinese-Indonesian translators. Many enterprises reaped abundant fruits here and gave a thumbsup to Indonesian Exhibition.

An Indonesian trading enterprise named JIN JAYA stated that the exhibition brought it many deals. All products shown by JATI MAKMUR FURNITURE were ordered by customers and also attracted many intentioned purchasers. Liuzhou Zhen Gongfu Co., Ltd. reached agreement with Jakarta and Balinese merchants about sales agent. The products from Guangxi Chesir Pearl Material Co., Ltd. were favored by lots of Indonesian enterprises who wanted to sell its products as agents. After trade talks with Guangxi Investment Group Co., Ltd., some Indonesian enterprises expected to develop real estate and infrastructure projects in their country. It can be predicted that the success of Indonesian Exhibition will bring splendors to the exchanges and cooperation between China-Indonesia enterprises in the future.

The Innovative Form is a Plus for Service

With the good platform effect that the CAEXPO was successfully held for 11 years, the Indonesian Exhibition gathered famous enterprises of China, Indonesia and other countries in Jakarta. They shared business opportunities and sought mutual cooperation, which was a direct affirmation to the CAEXPO. Also, Indonesian Exhibition added warmth to bilateral relations on the occasion of the 65th anniversary of the establishment of China-Indonesia diplomatic ties.

Mo Gongming, Secretary-General of China‘s Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region denoted, the CAEXPO Indonesian Exhibition comes at the right time and is an innovative act for Indonesia to involve in the “One Belt, One Road” construction. As China-Indonesia trade and economic cooperation goes deeper, their complementarity is becoming more and more prominent. The CAEXPO Indonesian Exhibition highlights Indonesia’s important role in China-ASEAN cooperation.

“China-Indonesia cooperation is significant for the economic development of the two countries. Both sides can go beyond a single way of resource exchange, which requires to establish a long-term stable relation of cooperation and become full partners”, the principal of Domestic Trade at the Indonesian Ministry of Trade stated.

Kompas, an Indonesian national newspaper deemed that the Indonesian Exhibition is well organized with the attendance of many quality Chinese and Indonesian enterprises. In the future, its industry category could concentrate in construction, building materials and infrastructure investment that Indonesia needs most, so as to promote more cooperation between the two sides.

The Indonesian Exhibition and the Thai Exhibition which was held in April 2-4, 2015 are two successful overseas exhibitions. This marks that the CAEXPO has made new breakthroughs in forging the upgraded version of CAFTA, extending value chain of the exhibition and improving comprehensive service, effectively served “The One Belt and Road Initiative”, promoted the construction of the upgraded version of CAFTA and composed a new epic of China-ASEAN cooperation. It will become the key for the CAEXPO overseas exhibition to build brand and enhance the influence by keeping “going global”, continuing to focus on the requirements of market and enterprises and seizing the priority areas of cooperation.

The principal of China-ASEAN Expo Secretariat said that Indonesian Exhibition is one of the series exhibitions held in ASEAN countries. Since 2015, the CAEXPO will host a series of overseas exhibitions in ASEAN countries based on their different industries and characteristics. The series exhibitions, as the enrichment and complement of the CAEXPO, add channels for exchanges between China and ASEAN countries in a wider scope and with more flexible ways. As China-ASEAN economic and trade relations upgrade and the influence of CAEXPO’s brand expands, CAEXPO’s overseas exhibitions will go further in the future and more great shows are just beginning.
