14 years ago， internet just started in China. It was still a high and remote concept for most people. Beihang University predicted the development tendency of internet media， and invited the professor Long Quan from Sichuan Fine Art Institute. The university founded the major of New Media Art， which led the way of the new media art among the science and engineering universities.

The New Media Art Institute was independent since 2006， the department set up the digital animation art major and the visual communication art and design major in addition of the comprehensive drawing majors. Different from most universities， the undergraduates of the New Media Art Institute should learn the basic courses for two years firstly， after laying solid foundations of drawing and the aesthetic perception， fully exposed to the common points of the three majors， the students made the decisions to choose the majors according to their interests and capability reservation. "The traditional art education cant cultivate the rich enough comprehensive abilities and employabilitiy of the students， it cant adapt to the rapid progress of the new media in the time of internet，” said president Long， “Therefore we will instill our students the great view of art through the basic courses， in addition the professors will teach the students how to use their knowledge and skills to create new art forms on the internet."

As we can see today， our New Media Art Institute has gained rich achievements in education through several years of continuous improvement in the education resources and curriculum modles. In 2013， 58% of the undergraduates continue their graduate studies， and half of them will go abroad to study. The employment rate of the department is surprisingly 100%， which is incredible for other majors. These students are those really master excellent art skills of new media， they can do the familiar drawing， editing and web designing with ease， they have also cultivated their sensitive smell of network， strong abilities of solving comprehensive problems during study. Now these qualities are just what the web portals， large companies and TV groups need.

Within one moment， the cartoon “Foufous positive energy” gain a broadcasting rate of more the 4000 thousand relying on its manner of encouraging peoples attitudes， as well as the courage of attacking on social evils. People may not think of that the cartoon “Foufou” was born in Beihang University， the rational serious old school of science and engineering.

Among the three majors of the institute， digital animation is the one that meet standards of internet media. “Internet animation is one of the development tendencies of animation， it developed rapidly”. Said Yu Shui， a vice professor and the leading teacher of the major.

“long after planning， we pushed out the image of ‘Foufou， we hope he will become a symbol of the social positive energy， and deliver this energy out. Foufou made an episode of cartoon every week， and lauched “Foufou dairy” on weibo and weixin every day. Through these platform， we can committee the contents faster to the audiences or the readers. In the future， we plan to forge Foufou as a multidimensional image including animation， cartoon and dolls. Well use the advantage of internet to build up the Foufou image.
