First in China WGS System for Purifying Flue Gas Comes Online at Jingxi Petrochemical Company

The PetroChina’s Jingxi Petrochemical Company has for the first time adopted the WGS wet gas scrubbing technology licensed by ExxonMobil in its new flue gas desulfurization unit at the #2 FCC unit, which has been operating smoothly with very obvious environmental protection benefits.

It is learned that this technology is a proprietary and unique technique licensed by ExxonMobil to PetroChina to ensure high safety in operation of process units. The three-stage liquid separator can effectively reduce free water entrained by flue gas, and even an emergency status would not affect the operation of FCC unit to assume advantages in terms of technology, investment and operating cost. The WGS wet gas scrubbing unit for flue gas desulfurization at the #2 FCC unit, the investment in which totals 73.34 million RMB, can treat 150 thousand Nm3/h of flue gas, which is characteristic of high degree of automation and high desulfurization efficiency. This WGS unit has a broad range of operating flexibility to cope with changes in throughput or feedstock quality and more stringent emission limits, and in the meantime the high-efficiency and blocking-free separation system has an apparent effect in terms of flue gas desulfurization, and soot and PM 2.5 removal, making it possible to discharge more clean FCC flue gas after purification into the atmosphere.

According to estimation, this unit can achieve a sulfur removal rate in excess of 95%, with the concentration of SO2and smoke in flue gas being less than 100 mg/m3and 50 mg/m3, respectively, to comply with or exceed the national emission reduction norms.
