Every cruise has a port of call[沿途停靠的港口] that visitors must see. In Iceland, the Blue Lagoon[泻湖(一片浅水湖)] geothermal[地热的] spa is the place everyone knows about.
The Blue Lagoon in Iceland is one of Icelands most popular attractions. It is an outdoor pool of geothermal seawater, located 45 minutes from Reykjavik. This experience should never be missed on a trip to Iceland and can be combined with sightseeing in various guided tours to the Blue Lagoon.
I visited the Blue Lagoon on a shore excursion[短程旅行] from the Holland America Maasdam. On this visit to the Blue Lagoon, I was surprised to find that the geothermal spa is not on the coast. The Blue Lagoon is inland. In addition, its not even a natural lagoon. The Blue Lagoon is an artificial pit[深坑] dug into the lava and filled with hot seawater from a nearby thermal[热量的] power plant[发电厂]. The temperature of the water is about 38℃, which makes the Blue Lagoon such a popular destination in the cold Icelandic[冰岛的] winters.
The color and density[密度] of the water is what differentiates[区分] the Blue Lagoon from other thermal baths. This bluish-white lagoon is surrounded by the black lava, and these striking colors and the steam rising from the lagoon makes for an amazing picture. Its almost like a milk bath, but the milky look comes from the suspended[悬浮的] silvery-gray silt[泥沙] and minerals. This silt is like a sticky mud, and people smear[涂上] it on their faces and bodies for therapeutic[治疗的] reasons (and maybe a little fun).
The entry fee[费用] into the Blue Lagoon is not cheap(about 40 euros), but it includes a locker and towel. You are required to take a shower before entering the lagoon, and you will want to take one when you get out, too.
Due to the size, it is easy to find your own private spot to get that weightless sensation[感觉] as you float in the water. Enjoy the mineral rich water which is believed to have curative[医疗的] powers. Listen to your body and limit bathing time accordingly to prevent exhaustion.
The geothermal spas updated facilities include changing rooms, an indoor swimming area, a conference area, and a restaurant with a beautiful view. In addition to bathing in the lagoon, visitors can visit the lava cave or take a steam bath powered by nature.
