I Wish You Enough我希望你知足常乐

Recently, I overheard a father and a daughter in their last moments together. They had just announced the departure(离开) of his plane. Standing near the security gate, they hugged, and he said, “I love you. I wish you enough.”

最近，我偶然听到一位父亲和女儿临别时的最后谈话。广播说他坐的飞机要起飞了。在安检处，他们拥抱着，他说：“我爱你，希望你知足常乐！”

She said, “Daddy, our life together has been more than enough. Your love is all I ever needed. I wish you enough, too, Daddy.”

她说：“我们在一起的时光已让我满足，你的爱就是我的全部。爸爸，我也希望你知足常乐!”

They kissed and she left. He walked over toward the window where I was seated. Standing there I could see he wanted and needed to cry. I tried not to intrude（闯入）on his privacy, but he welcomed me in by asking, “Did you ever say goodbye to someone knowing it would be forever?”

吻别后，她就离开了。他走到我座位的窗户旁，看得出他站在那里想哭。我不想干扰他的隐私，但他好像很愿意我的介入，问：“如果明明知道是永别，你还告别吗？”

“Yes, I have,” I replied. Saying that brought back memories I had of expressing my love and appreciation for all my dad had done for me. Recognizing that his days were limited, I took the time to tell him face to face how much he meant to me. So I knew what this man was experiencing.

我回答：“是的。”说起这些让我想起了父亲为我所做的一切，为此我向父亲表达过我对他的爱和感激。知道他时日不多时，我当面告诉他对我来说他有多重要。因此，我知道这个男人此时感受。

“Forgive me for asking, but why is this a forever goodbye?” I asked.

我问他：“原谅我这样问，但为什么这是永别呢？”

“I am old and she lives much too far away. I have challenges ahead and the reality is, the next trip back would be for my funeral.” he said.

他说：“我已经老了，她住的又太远。我不知道哪一天会没了。下次回来也许就是为了参加我的葬礼。”

“When you were saying goodbye, I heard you say, ‘I wish you enough. May I ask what that means?”

“你们道别时，我听你说‘希望你知足常乐，能告诉我那是什么意思吗？”

He began to smile. “Thats a wish that has been handed down from other generetions. My parents used to say it to everyone. ”

他开始笑了，“那是从祖辈传下来的一种希望。过去我父母就常和每个人这样说。”

He paused for a moment, looking up as if trying to remember it in detail, he smiled even more.

他停了一下，仰起头，好像在追忆过去的点点滴滴，他笑得更灿烂了。

“When we said ‘I wish you enough, we were wanting the other person to have a life filled with just enough good things to sustain（支撑，维持）them,” he continued. Then, turning towards me, he shared the following as if he were reciting it from memory.

他继续说：“当我们说‘希望你知足常乐，是希望那个人一生好事常伴。”然后，他看着我，像是凭着记忆在背诵，告诉了我下面这些话。

“I wish you enough sun to keep your attitude bright. I wish you enough rain to appreciate the sun more. I wish you enough happiness to keep your spirit alive. I wish you enough pain so that the smallest joys in life appear much bigger. I wish you enough gain to satisfy your wanting. I wish you enough loss to appreciate all that you possess. I wish enough Hellos to get you through the final Goodbye.”

“我希望你拥有足够的阳光，使你乐观向上。我希望你拥有足够的雨水，使你更加珍惜阳光。我希望你拥有足够的幸福，使你精神高涨。我希望你拥有足够的痛苦，因此而感知生命中小小的快乐都会变得很大。我希望你收获多多，满足你的需要。我希望你失去多多，使你珍惜所拥有的一切。我希望‘你好多多，一直伴你到‘永别！”
