Disney English Celebrates the Year of the Tiger

Disney English Launches Winter Camp Program during the holiday season.

Disney English centers across Shanghai have been busy creating and putting up Chinese New Year-inspired decorations to create a festive atmosphere to ring in the Year of the Tiger. Disney English actively seeks ways to make English language learning relevant to young Chinese language learners and the celebration of key local holidays on the Chinese calendar is a great way to learn English.

For the beginning of the Chinese New Year festive season, Disney English has created a comprehensive learning environment allowing children to celebrate through their daily lessons, featuring holiday-inspired content that is brought to life via touchpad technology and surrounding sound music. Children will learn New Year-related English words, phrases and dialogue, as well as getting the chance to have fun by creating their own Chinese New Year ornaments to share with family and friends.

Katie, a Disney English trainer, shares her favorite tips to ensure a fun and English-flled Chinese New Year celebration.

Sharing Chinese New Year in English

“The Chinese New Year is traditionally a time for families and friends. During this special time, parents can encourage children to practice their New Year greetings in English,” says Katie. Here are some practical Chinese New Year greetings in English that children can practice with:

● When visiting grandparents, children can say: “Best wishes for the year to come! I sincerely wish you longevity and health!”

● When visiting parents’ colleagues, children can say: “Good fortune in the Year of the Tiger! I wish you happiness for your family!”

● When visiting his/her own friends, children can say: “Happy Year of the Tiger, my good friend! I wish you happiness everyday!”

Create Your Own Chinese New Year Wishes

Chinese New Year signals the giving of “lucky red pockets” and the hanging of wishes and good luck messages on walls and front doors. Katie suggests that parents and children create their own wishes and messages by following these simple steps:

1. Find a large sheet of red paper and cut into a long rectangular shape;

2. Trace out the words “Happy Year of the Tiger” or “Good health and happiness everyday” onto the paper;

3. Sprinkle with gold and red glitter or, if you are feeling creative, trace out an image of a tiger;

4. Hang on the wall or on the front doors to send your wishes for the New Year in English!

During this period, Disney English will also launch a new Winter Camp initiative, which is an intensive holiday English language learning program during the Chinese New Year period/winter holidays. The two-week intensive program aims to run through a full unit of the academically approved Disney English immersive curriculum and for young learners to share in the joy of English language learning over the holiday break. The program contains elements from the academically proven curriculum and incorporates the original Disney English songs, immersive learning experience, full utilization of the interactive white boards and the huge element of fun and excitement to make learning a joyful experience.

Enrollments for the program are now open and for more information, please log onto the Disney English website www.disneyenglish.com or call 400-820-8066 to speak to a customer service representative.
