(A)Dont Tell Lies 不要撒谎

诚实是一种美德。如果你一直讲实话,就可以避免很多麻烦。下面这则故事里的主人公Mark对此深有感触。

Once there lived a man named Mark who had lots of bad habits. People around him didnt like him. One day he asked God, “I have many bad habits. Which one should I give up(放弃) first?” God said, “Give up telling lies and always tell the truth(事实).” The man promised(允诺) to do so. At night the man would go out to steal(偷窃), but he thought of his promise, “If tomorrow God asks me, can I say that I went out stealing? No. But if I tell the truth, everyone will hate me.” So the man didnt steal anything that night. The next day, he felt like drinking, but when he was about to do so, he thought of his promise again. In the end, he decided not to drink.

In this way, whenever the man wanted to do something bad, he remembered his promise—tell the truth all the time. In the end, he gave up all his bad habits and became a very good and nice person. He became very popular with everyone, too.

Maybe you can sell it!” said the American. “Right,” the boy said. “So why did you give the ring back when I didnt know you had found it?” “Im Chinese, and everyone here is also, except for you.
