The China-UK relationship has a long history and is one of the most importantcontemporary China-European ties. The UK was the first western country torecognize the Peoples Republic of China after it was founded in 1949. Later,the two sides reached an agreement to exchange Charges d'Affairs in 1954, andsigned the Joint Communique for the Agreement on the Exchange of Ambassadors in1972.
