Second Council Meeting of China-ASEAN Association Held

On April 29, the China-ASEAN Association held its Second Council Meeting in Beijing. 70 council members from the ministries and commissions of the central government, local governments, enterprises, and economic, trade, academic and educational circles attended the meeting.

Members of the Executive Committee of the Second Council were elected at the meeting. Gu Xiulian, former vice chairperson of the Standing Committee of the National Peoples Congress, was reelected president. Shi Guangsheng, former minister of foreign trade and economic cooperation; Wu Tao, former assistant foreign minister and ambassador; Zhao Shaohua, vice chairperson of the All-China Womens Federation; Li Zibin, president of the China Association of Small and Medium Enterprises; Wang Yunze, former CPAFFC vice president, and Feng Zuoku, CPAFFC vice president, were elected vice presidents.

The proposal of establishing three special committees was approved at the meeting. Wu Tao, Wang Yunze and Shi Guangsheng were elected chairman of the Committee of Experts, the Committee of Culture and the Committee of Entrepreneurs respectively. The Report on the Work of the First Council of the China-ASEAN Association and the motion of amending the Statutes of the Association were approved at the meeting. In the panel discussions, council members aired their views freely and gave suggestions on the work of the new Council and friendly cooperation between China and the ASEAN.

On the evening of the same day, a reception marking the founding of the Second Council of the China-ASEAN Association was held. About one hundred people including the council members of the China-ASEAN Association and ambassadors of the ten ASEAN countries in China were present. President Gu Xiulian and Vichit Xindavong, chairman of the ASEAN Beijing Committee and Lao ambassador to China, spoke on the occasion.
