Editor's note:In 1971,as U.S. President Richard Nixon's specialenvoy,then-National Security Adviser Henry Kissinger madea secret trio to China.What greeted him were Slogans paintedon WallS along the road from BeijingS Nanyuan Airport tO theDiaoyutai State Guesthouse.and their gist was:“Down withthe American imperialists and all reactionaries.” It was unimagi-nable then that Kissinger, at the age of 85, would visit Beijing 37years later;this time with his family as spectators at the BeijingOlympiC Games.In between sporting events, he took his familyto visit his old friend, 96-year-old Huang Hua,who was the ne-gotiator and host of hiS 1971 visit.
