Boy 1:Did you see any white people in there waiting an hour and 32 minutes for a plate of spaghetti? And how many cups of coffee did we get?

Boy 2:You dont drink coffee and I dont want any.

Boy 1:Man,that woman in there poured cup after cup to every single white person around us. But did she even ask you if you wanted any?

Boy 2:We didnt get any coffee that you didnt want and I didnt order and thats evidence of racial discrimination?Did you notice that our waitress was black?

Boy 1:And black women dont think in stereotypes? You tell some, man, when is the last time you met one who didnt think she knew every about your little lazy ass before you even opened your mouth, huh? That waitress sized us up in two seconds. Were black and black people dont tip. So she wasnt gonna waste her time.Somebody like that?Nothing you can do to change their mind.

Boy 2: How much do we leave?

Boy 1:You expect me to pay that kind of service? What? What the fuck are you laughing at, man?

Boy 1:Wait, wait, wait...See what that woman just did? You see that?

Boy 2:Why, shes cold.

Boy 1:She got colder as soon as she saw us now.

Boy 2:Oh, man, come on, dont start.

Boy 1:Man,look around you, man. You couldnt find a whiter, safer or better-lit part of this city right now. But yet this woman sees two black guys who look like UCLA students, strolling down the sidewalk, and her reaction is blind fear?I mean look at us,Doug, are we dressed like gangbangers? Huh? No.Do we look threatening? No.In fact,if anybody should be scared around here, its us!Were the only two black faces surrounded by a sea of over-caffeinated white people patrolled by the trigger—happy L.A.P.D. So you tell me,why arent we scared?

Boy 2:Cause we got guns?

Boy 1:You could be right.

Boy 1:Get fuck outta the car!

Boy 2:Give me the keys! Hurry up! Get down!

Jean:OK!OK!OK!

Rick:No,please!

Boy 2:Dont look at me, turn around.

Boy 1:Come on. Go.

Rick: OK, were good, were fine, just keep moving.

Boy 1:

Jean:

Rick:

Boy 2:

Boy 1:

Rick:

Movie Script II

Shaniqua:Good morning, Carol. Who do I have?

Carol:Hold a moment,please.Mr.Trujillo called and cancelled,but you have a walk-in,Mr.Ryan.

Shaniqua:Send him in.

Shaniqua:Mr. Ryan?

Ryan:Yeah.

Shaniqua:My name is Shaniqua Johnson. I believe we spoke last night.

Ryan:Oh yeah,I wanted to apologize about that.I havent been getting too much sleep. My fathers in a lot of pain.

Shaniqua: Im sorry to hear that.

Ryan:And this doctor hes been seeing says hes got a urinary tract infection. But hes been taking this medicine for a month now,and he keeps getting worse.

Shaniqua:And hes been back to see Dr. Robertson?

Ryan:Yeah.Between you and me,the mans an idiot.

Shaniqua:Really?

Ryan:No offense. But the guy sees a hundred patients an hour and I think his nurses are doing most of the work.

Shaniqua:Mmm. If youre unhappy, your fathers welcome to see a doctor outside the network.

Ryan:And if this new doctor says its not an infection, says its a prostate and it needs to be operated on,is that gonna be covered?

Shaniqua:Not unless Dr. Robertson authorizes...

Ryan:And what good is that gonna do?

Shaniqua:Im sorry, theres nothing else I can do.

Ryan:All right, you know what I cant do? I cant look at you without thinking about the five or six more qualified men who didnt get your job.

Shaniqua:Its time for you to go.

Ryan:Im saying this because Im hoping that Im wrong about you. Im hoping that someone like yourself, someone who may have been given a helping hand, might have a little compassion for someone in a similar situation.

Shaniqua:Carol,I need security in my office.

Ryan:You dont like me, thats fine. Im a prick. My father doesnt deserve to suffer like this. He was a janitor. He struggled his whole life.Saved enough to start his own company. Twenty-three employees, all of them black. Paid-em equal wages when no one else was doing that. For thirty years he worked side by side with those men, sweeping and carrying garbage. And then the city council decides to give minority-owned companies preference in city contracts. And overnight my father loses everything. His business, his home, his wife, and everything. Not once does he blame your people. Now Im not asking you to help me. Im asking that you do this small thing for a man who lost everything,so people like yourself could reap the benefits. And you know what its gonna cost you? Nothing. Just a flick of your pen.

Shaniqua:Your father sounds like a good man. And if hed come in here today,I probably wouldve approved this request. But he didnt come in. You did. And for his sake, its a real shame. Get him the hell outta my office.
