“Bobi, the world's oldest dog ever, has died after reaching the almost incon?ceivable age of 31 years and 165 days,”said Guinness World Records.

His death at an animal hospital wasinitially announced by veterinarian DrKaren Becker. “There were many secretsto Bobi's extraordinary old age,” his ownerLeonel Costa said. “He always roamedfreely and lived in a‘ calm, peaceful envi?ronment,” Costa said. He spent his wholelife in Conqueiros, a small Portuguesevillage about 150 kilometers north of thecapital Lisbon, often wandering aroundwith cats.

When Bobi and his three siblingswere born in the family's woodshed,Costa's father decided they already had too many animals at home. Costa and hisbrothers thought their parents had takenall the puppies away to be put down.

However, a few sad days later, thechildren found Bobi alive, safely hidden ina pile of logs. They hid the puppy fromtheir parents, and by the time Bobi's exis?tence became known, he was too old to beput down and went on to live his record?breaking life.

His 31st birthday party in May wasattended by more than 100 people and aperforming dance troupe, Guinness WorldRecords said. His eyesight deterioratedand walking became harder as Bobi grewolder, but he still spent time in the back?yard with the cats, rested more and nappedby the fire.
