I am head of Energy Transition &Integration at the Department for Business and Trade of the British Embassy in Beijing.I recently readChinaToday, and found it very informative.Due to my work,I am particularly interested in soaking up information about China’s investment in green energy.I know that the Chinese government has mapped out the path to carbon peak and neutrality with a series of incentive policies to facilitate the low-carbon transition. In the U.K.,we also have an energy white paper titledPoweringOurNetZeroFuture, which set out how the U.K.will clean up its energy system and reach net zero emissions by 2050.The article titled “The Hydrogen Energy Era” in the January issue ofChina Todayimpressed me very much.I read about the high-end hydrogen equipment manufacturing and application demonstration zone in Beijing’s Daxing District, and I am curious as to how it is gearing up to meet the hydrogen market demands of Beijing.Hydrogen is a clean secondary energy that is easy to store, renewable, and with a wide array of sources but zero carbon emissions. It is becoming a new key to solving the energy crisis and building a clean, safe, and efficient modern energy system. We are now on the cusp of a global green industrial revolution. As we move out of the shadow of the coronavirus pandemic and confront the challenge of climate change, markets for new green products and services will spring up across the world.Taking action immediately will ensure that we’ll be able to achieve the goal of net zero emissions as soon as possible, and also help companies to seize business opportunities.

I am the founder of United Family Healthcare, the first foreign-invested healthcare group in China, which has established nine hospitals and 14 clinics in major cities like Beijing,Shanghai,Tianjin,Guangzhou, and Shenzhen.I likeChinaToday’s column East Meets West which features engrossing stories about the lives of foreigners in China.Over the past 40 years,I have witnessed that the business environment in China has become increasingly transparent, which is very helpful for foreigners to set up businesses. And this progress can be seen in many fields such as education, healthcare, high technology, and intellectual property protection. With the rapid development and continuous opening-up of Beijing, more and more expatriates are coming to the capital city to find opportunities. As vice-chair of the American Chamber of Commerce in China,I believe the recent highlevel interactions between senior government officials from China and the United States will instill greater confidence among American companies in China. For a majority of AmCham China members,China remains the most critical investment destination, and they will continue doing business here,as they are upbeat about China’s growth.
