I am the Maltese ambassador to China. In the July issue ofChina Today, I read the article titled “Green Road to Growth”and found it very impressive.I am one of the envoys to China portrayed in the picture holding fans with Chinese calligraphy to express our love for Guizhou. The trip we took to southwest China’s Guizhou Province helped me better understand the Chinese governance philosophy of “ lucid waters and lush mountains are invaluable assets.” We should tell the international community the story of China’s ecological governance and its success.Malta and China have supported each other in playing a great role in international affairs and worked together to tackle climate change and pursue economic recovery.During recent years, Chinese investors and tourists have been attracted to Malta in unprecedented numbers, due to Malta’s strategic location in the heart of the Mediterranean Sea.Malta’s record for inbound tourism has been broken for several consecutive years, with vastly increasing tourists coming from China.I hope that more cultural exchange activities will be organized in Malta which can offer a glimpse into China and all its wonders through unique performances, artistic exhibitions, informative workshops, and vibrant celebrations of the Chinese Lunar New Year and the Lantern Festival.

I am the deputy secretary general of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), one of the diplomats and officials from 20 countries to Guizhou.I read the in-depth report written byChina Todayjournalist in the July entitled “Green Road to Growth.” In Guizhou, remarkable achievements have been made in rural revitalization and the digital economy. Its eco-friendly development model has also made it a tourist magnet.I hope that more cooperation can be carried out in ecological protection, poverty alleviation, and eco-tourism between China and countries in Central Asia. For the last several years, the ecological progress in China can be accredited to its adherence to the green development philosophy advocated by Chinese President Xi Jinping, as well as its cooperation with other countries in protecting ecological environment in the world. On the new path to building a modern socialist country, China is seeking harmonious coexistence of humanity and nature, promoting low-carbon growth, and accelerating the modernization of the environmental management system. The SCO member states attach great importance to improving the effectiveness of environmental protection activities by establishing a constructive multilateral dialogue in this area. These important directions are reflected in the SCO development strategy through to 2025 and other relevant documents. It can be noticed that other SCO member countries look forward to deepening cooperation with China for carrying out ecological and environmental protection and addressing global environmental challenges.
