Due to rising of population and rapid socio-economic development, wildlife and their habitats are being destroyed by human activity. Celebrated annually on March 3, World Wildlife Day is a holiday that not only lets us have the chance to appreciate beauty of diverse wildlife but also raises awareness of environmental protection for nature and reflects on our actions.
It is estimated that over a million species are endangered and more than 2.4 million hectares of terrestrial ecosystems around the world degraded. Biodiversity loss is a threat to the earth and survival of mankind. Yet, this is not inevitable: we have the power to change and restore threatened species number and their habitats.
Involve indigenous peoples and local communities with experience and knowledge in the conservation of vulnerable species and ecosystems in all World Wildlife Day events and celebrations. Then carry out a raft of wildlife protection projects, to observe and raise awareness of the theme for World Wildlife Day. In the heart of Murchison Falls National Park, Uganda, the Nile Safari Lodge offers views of the River Nile. Visitors to the lodge can take part in a conservation project called Snares-to-Wares that transforms wire snares laid to trap animals into pieces of art. It is our hope that World Wildlife Day will help depict a path towards a sustainable future, with the goal of living in harmony with nature.
