Auckland is the biggest city in New Zealand. It has apopulation2 of more than a million. That is to say， a quarter ofall New Zealanders live there. It has a large population byNew Zealand standards3， it is also a large city. GreaterAuckland covers4 6，232 square miles. Its a very large city byworld standards. In fact， Auckland is made up of a number ofsmaller cities which all join together.

奥克兰是新西兰最大的城市。它有100 多万人口。也就是说，四分之一的新西兰人住在那里。按照新西兰的标准，它人口众多，面积也很大。大奥克兰占地6232 平方英里，按照世界标准，这是一个非常大的城市。

Auckland is built around two beautiful harbours5. Everywhere you go inAuckland you will see water. On a fine day， you will also see hundreds of boatssailing on the water. For this reason， Auckland is known as “The City of Sails”.The city sits on seven hills which were formed6 50，000 years ago by volcanicactivity7. At the same time， many islands8 were formed in the harbour. The mostfamous one is Rangitoto. You can see it from all over Auckland.

Auckland now has the larger population of Pacific Islanders than anyother city in the world. Now Auckland has attracted9 people from Asia and othercountries. That makes Auckland a truly multi-cultural10 city.

Auckland has many interesting things to see. The main business and shoppingdistrict11 is Queen Street where you can buy anything you want. The entertainment12district is also on Queen Street. You can go to a show or a film， and then to arestaurant or club. There is a big visitors centre， which is a good place to start atour of Auckland.

奥克兰有很多有趣的东西可以观赏。主要的商业和购物区是皇后街，在那里你可以买到任何你想要的东西。娱乐区也在皇后街。你可以去看演出或电影，然后去餐馆或俱乐部。这里有一个大型游客中心，是开始奥克兰之旅的好地方。

At the top of Queen Street you willfind Karangahape Road. It is full of smallshops and colorful markets with cheapproducts13. You will see people， food andproducts from many countries of the world.On the other hand， Parnell is the expensiveplace to shop. For the young andfashionable14， Ponsonby is the place for expensive restaurants， clubs and night life.

You can drive around the harbour and it has many great places to swim andsmall villages with restaurants and shops. Auckland is a green city with 22 parks.The weather is warm all year， so locals15 and visitors can enjoy an outdoor life.
