I am the co-founder of the Western Academy of Beijing(WAB),an international school serving students from countries around the world between early years to grade 12.As a British man who was born in Beijing,I view myself as a bridge builder between these two cultures and beyond. In recent days,I read the article“Understanding China Through the Lens of a British Historian”in the June issue ofChina Today. It was a good article with interesting backstories of Michael Wood’China-themed works.I love all of Wood’ documentaries —not just those about China, but also ones related to India, and other Belt and Road countries.Since 2013 Wood has made a dozen visits to China to make his films, like the six-partStory of Chinawhich sets out to give viewers an introduction to the grand sweep and creative riches of Chinese history.Besides producing documentaries,he is also the author of several highly acclaimed and best-selling books on English history includingThe Story of England. As a historian broadcaster and film maker,Wood has a talent in bringing history alive for viewers and readers.Wood and I have some common friends such as Zoe Reed, chair of Society for Anglo-Chinese Understanding (SACU),of which Wood himself has been president since January 2020.They both have a direct interest in building links and understanding with China. For them, the point in a nutshell is that the British people and the Chinese people must come to know each other better.

I graduated from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University and am now working as a young entrepreneur in the Greater Bay Area.I read the articles of the Special Report“Enjoy Thy Youth,Play Thy Role”in the May issue ofChina Today,in which the authors delineated the profile of Chinese young people by presenting stories about their lives, work, and dreams. Some of the stories are very inspirational. For example, the article“Job Market Shake-up”tells the story of Lu Zeqian,a 28-yearold Passion Test facilitator.I learned about Passion Test during my school days. The quiz, based on the leading personality type theories, provides the simplest and clearest way to find one’s passion and use it to turn dreams into reality. For most young people, loving what we do is a crucial factor in job selection. That was also the reason that I chose to start my own business of planting organic vegetables on the basis of a selfdeveloped fish and vegetable coexisting system at the agricultural land base in Guangdong’s Jiangmen. From my point of view, only when you are living a passionate life, are you living a meaningful life.
