O n March 16 (Geneva time), Lin Songtian, president of the Chinese Peoples Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, spoke via video during debate on the promotion and protection of human rights in the 49th session of the UN Human Rights Council.
Lin said, human rights and democracy are all about people. Increasing peoples sense of gain, happiness and safety in all countries is the fundamental duty and common goal of the worlds human rights cause.
Lin noted that the Communist Party of China and the Chinese government always adhere to a peoplecentered human rights philosophy. In the face of COVID-19, the Chinese government puts people first, spares no effort in saving every single life and safeguarding the health of each citizen, and never gives up peoples right to subsistence. Facing the issue of poverty, the CPC and the Chinese government have taken peoples aspirations for a better life as their goal and lifted more than 1.4 billion Chinese people out of poverty with no one left behind. According to the Global Happiness Survey 2020 by Ipsos of France, China leads the world with 93 percent of its people feeling happy.
Lin pointed out, the government of the worlds biggest developed country talks about human rights to others every day but adopts a “lying flat” policy in response to the raging pandemic within its own borders and turns a blind eye to the fact that onefourth of its population is infected. Thousands of lives are lost every day— more than 1 million in total, he noted.
“What is the meaning of human rights in such a country? The answer is clear,” Lin said.175467BE-6D46-43F0-8EC6-0CB9ADBBA4E1
