During this winter holiday, I spent one night watching a movie called Forrest Gump, which was highly recommended by my teacher Tang Ying. As expected, Forrests story touched me. Also, it moved me so deeply that I was immersed in the story.
The film is named after a man called Forrest Gump. He has a low IQ. He kept running during his childhood to escape being bullied with the support of his best and only friend Jenny, so that he trained to have strong legs.
His mother taught him the way of living a meaningful life and helped him to work hard to find his destiny. Forrest had a series of accomplishments that seemed to be difficult to achieve. He joined the army in Vietnam, won medals, created a famous shrimp fishing fleet, inspired people to jog, donated money to help people and so on. More incredibly during his life, he had the honour to meet American presidents several times. However, these werent important to Forrest who was only concerned about his “girl” Jenny, who had a rough life for quite a long time.
What inspired me from the film was Forrests strong will and optimism and kind heart. He faced many tribulations throughout his life, but he never let any of them interfere with his happiness. In spite of having a low IQ, wearing leg braces and being laughed at and bullied, Forrest continued to believe that good things would happen and kept chasing his dreams. As a result of this, he managed to turn each setback into something good for him, for example, when he finally got his braces off, he discovered that he was capable of running faster than most people. This skill helped Forrest not only to escape his bullies while he was a child, but also to gain a football scholarship, save many soldiers lives and become famous.
However, despite his numerable achievements, during each period in Forrests lifetime, he thought of Jenny and knew how important she was to him. Although the two characters grew up together and shared a very close friendship, they grew apart but reunited and stayed together for a few times, and eventually they had a son and got married. Forrests loyalty to Jenny in the film is also the reason why this film attracted and moved me deeply. He cared for Jenny all his life and felt upset when Jenny left him. And he said to Jenny, “Im not a smart man, but I know what love is.” When I saw that, I just felt as if I were personally there on the scene, and couldnt help feeling upset, with tears soaking my eyes.
A quote Forrests mother said in the movie “Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what youre going to get” perfectly sums up the movie. I have realized that life can throw all sorts of things at you that you might not expect, just like a box of chocolates that have lots of different flavors and you dont know which flavor you will get. Forrest experienced a lot of hardships, but he went through them bravely and lived a meaningful life. And all the great and incredible achievements he had made came from his hard work and concentration on doing everything, which deeply shocked me and made Forrest one of my most admirable characters.
The inspirational and educational movie Forrest Gump has guided me to have a deeper understanding of the truths of life. Dont flinch when difficulties come, keep an optimistic attitude, be faithful to what matters to you and focus on everything you are determined to do. The lessons that Forrest taught me are beneficial to me all my life, which I will remember them deeply in my heart.
