On the fourth of February this year in Beijing and ZhangJiaKou, the grand opening of the twenty-fourth Winter Olympics took place. The Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 won the attention of the world, and athletes from different countries also showed their wonderful strength.
There are quite a few athletes that the audience are looking forward to seeing. My favourite one of them is called Gu Ailing. She was originally born in San Francisco and started to learn skiing at the early age of three. She won the American Junior Group skiing champion at the age of nine. Gu Ailing’s mother, Gu Yan, a former Speed Skating player and ski instructor at Peking University, takes her daughter back to Beijing every year. So Gu speaks fluent Beijing dialect, loves to eat boiled mutton and roast duck, and knows a lot of hutong cultures, which establishes her Chinese identity. On June 6, 2019, at the age of 15, Gu announced through personal media that she had officially transferred from American to Chinese nationality, and continued to compete as a Chinese citizen. She expressed her love for her homeland through many interviews. Apart from this, she never slacked on her studies. In 2020, she announced her acceptance in Stanford University. Gu Ailing is the perfect role model to follow in our lives.
As we see, Gu Ailing claimed the historic gold in the Freestyle Skiing Woman’s Big Air of the Beijing 2022 Olympic Winter Games at Big Air Shougang here on February 8th.
The Winter Olympics is a wonderful chance for us to open our minds and know more about the world. We should try our best to improve our understanding of the international event. Besides, we can use the Internet and books to know more about the sports and culture. As the saying goes, “Together for a Shared Future”!
