Outlook Weekly
Issue 39, 2021
The COVID-19 pandemic sounded an alarm to humanity, reminding them to reflect on the way of responding to public health emergencies.
In China, it has been proven effective to include public health emergency response into broad social governance, an approach long advocated by health experts.
In fighting the virus, China has institutionalized a cross-department joint response mechanism. Compared with its response to SARS outbreak back in 2003, China becomes better at mobilizing resources from various sectors to make sure every infected patient has access to medical care they need. Public health was made an important part of social governance.
China also ensured equal progress in patient treatment and scientific study. Peoples literacy in public health science has been greatly improved. Science and technology played a big role in fighting the virus. It enabled China to identify the pathogen and develop effective vaccines in a fast manner.
Approach to National Cultural Parks Building
Peoples Weekly
Issue 16, 2021
The Yellow River, the Great Wall, the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal, and the Long March are the most important physical and spiritual symbols of the 5,000-year-old Chinese civilization. China pledged to build four national cultural parks around those themes in its “Outline of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-2025) for National Economic and Social Development and the Long-Range Objectives through the Year 2035” released in October 2020. National cultural parks, a major project that will involve more than 20 provincial regions, will become the most spectacular label of Chinas national image and source of cultural confidence in a new era.
The building of these parks revolves around the theme rather than administrative boundary. With integrated plans, involving provincial-level regions will act in concert. In the process, China will also encourage the development of culture-inspired tourism. While preserving and carrying forward ethnic cultures, tourism development will help boost local economy and create jobs for the people.

Issue 18, 2021
In September 2021, Chinas central authorities issued a general plan for building a Guangdong-Macao in-depth cooperation zone in Hengqin and a plan for comprehensively deepening the reform and opening-up of the Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong Modern Service Industry Cooperation Zone. The newly released plans have created a promising future for the GuangdongHong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
A river from Macao, Hengqin has the inherent advantage in conducting cooperation with Macao. The strategic positioning of the cooperation zone in Hengqin is a new platform for promoting Macaos moderately diversified economy, a new space where Macao residents can find a better career and life prospect, a new demonstration area exemplifying the practice of“one country, two systems,” and a new highland for the development of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.
The new Qianhai zone will be a new gateway for comprehensive reform and higher-level opening-up. Guangdong, Hong Kong, and Macao will continue working together to turn the blueprints into a reality.
