鲸鱼腹中的奇迹

A man had been eaten by a whale and lived to tell the tale. Like Jonah from the famous religious stories, professional diver Michael Packard was swallowed by a huge whale. He was trapped inside its mouth for nearly a minute.

Mr Packard, 56, was about 14 meters below the surface of the water near Herring Cove Beach at 8 am on Friday when the massive mammal tried to turn him into breakfast. “All of a sudden, I felt this huge shove and the next thing I knew was that it was completely black. I could sense I was moving, and I could feel the whale squeezing with the muscles in its mouth. I'm gonna die,” Mr Packard said.

“I was completely inside (the whale). It was completely black. I thought to myself, ‘There's no way I'm getting out of here. I'm done. I'm dead. All I could think of was my boys. They're 12 and 15 years old,’” Mr Packard said. But when he realized he could feel no teeth, he began struggling and felt the whale shaking his head in discomfort. Within 40 seconds, the whale spat (吐) him back out into the ocean.

“I saw light, and it started throwing its head side-to-side and the next thing I knew was that I was outside (in the water). My first thought was that I can't believe I got out of that situation. My second thought was how injured I was,” Mr Packard said.

His boating pal, Josiah Mayo, saw water spraying as the sea creature surfaced and Mr Packard was thrown out. He rescued Mr Packard out of the sea, and rushed him to a hospital, where he was treated for soft-tissue damage to his leg.

Amazingly, Mr Packard said he felt just fine after his remarkable getaway. An expert said the whale was likely a juvenile (少年), and may have swallowed Mr Packard accidentally, not seeing the diver while his mouth was open wide to hold little fish.
