Xi Jinping Attends the Global Health Summit

President Xi Jinping attended the Global Health Summit via video link on May 21， 2021 in Beijing and delivered an important speech.

Xi said， the past year and more have seen repeated resurgence of the coronavirus. The most serious pandemic in a century is still wreaking havoc. To clinch an early victory against COVID-19 and restore economic growth remains the top priority for the international community. G20 members need to shoulder responsibilities in global cooperation against the virus and enhance preparedness and capacity for coping with major public health emergencies.

Xi then put forward a five-point proposal and called for building a global community of health for all： first， put people and their lives first； second， follow science-based policies and ensure a coordinated and systemic response； third， stick together and promote solidarity and cooperation； fourth， uphold fairness and equity in the global effort to close the immunization gap； fifth， address both the symptoms and root causes while improving the governance system.

In continued support for global solidarity against COVID-19， Xi announced moves China would take. China will provide an additional US $3 billion in international aid over the next three years to support COVID-19 response and economic and social recovery in other developing countries. Having already supplied 300 million doses of vaccines to the world， China will provide still more vaccines to the best of its ability. China supports its vaccine companies in transferring technologies to other developing countries and carrying out joint production with them.

The Global Health Summit was jointly proposed and held by Italy， which holds the presidency of the G20， and the European Commission. The meeting， which was held via video link， focused on such issues as joint fight against the virus and enhanced prevention of future pandemics.

Li Keqiang Holds Talks with Uzbek Prime Minister via Video Link

On June 8， 2021， Premier Li Keqiang held talks with Uzbek Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov in Beijing via video link.

Li Keqiang said that China and Uzbekistan are friendly neighbors and comprehensive strategic partners. Since the outbreak of COVID-19， China and Uzbekistan have been supporting and helping each other to push forward pragmatic cooperation， which has played a positive role in the two countries economic recovery. China stands ready to work with Uzbekistan to conduct closer high-level exchanges， strengthen mutual political trust， deepen practical cooperation across the board， and bring the bilateral relations to a new high.

Li Keqiang pointed out that China stands ready to work with Uzbekistan to enhance coordination and cooperation under the framework of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to contribute to post-pandemic recovery and livelihood improvement for regional countries.

Abdulla Aripov said that Uzbekistan and China have seen sound development of the bilateral relations. He thanked China for the timely aid to Uzbekistan in fighting the pandemic， and extended the wish to enhance cooperation with China in pandemic control. He called on the two countries to give full play to the intergovernmental cooperation committee mechanism， and further explore and deepen cooperation in trade， investment， energy， and connectivity to push for greater development of bilateral relations.

Wang Yi Delivers Video Remarks at the SCO Day Reception

On June 15， 2021， the SCO Day Reception was held in Beijing. State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi delivered remarks at the SCO Day Reception via video link.

Wang Yi said， 20 years ago， at the dawn of this century， the heads of state of China， Kazakhstan， Kyrgyzstan， Russia， Tajikistan， and Uzbekistan announced officially the creation of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization（SCO）. It was a decision that embraced the world trend of peace， development， and cooperation， and ushered in a new era of the countries in the region jointly pursuing security， development， and prosperity.

Wang Yi emphasized， the past 20 years is an embodiment of commitment to solidarity and a shared future. The SCO countries have risen above differences in ideology， social system and development path. They have supported each other on issues involving their respective core interests and major concerns. And they have engaged in close coordination in the face of external interference and various risks and challenges. These are concrete actions that give true meaning to the SCO community with a shared future.

Wang Yi said， as a founding member， China always views the SCO as a high priority in its diplomacy. At this new historic starting point， the SCO needs to stand at the forefront and take up the responsibilities of our times， and make greater contribution to world peace and development. Thus， China puts forward four proposals： first， set a shining example of a community with a shared future； second， unlock a new driving force for cooperation and mutual benefits； third， write a new chapter of mutual learning between civilizations； fourth， step up to new responsibilities in global governance.

June 15 this year marks the 20th anniversary of the creation of the SCO. The reception was co-hosted by the Chinese Peoples Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the Secretariat of the SCO. SCO Secretary-General Vladimir Norov， and diplomatic envoys to China of SCO member states， observers， and dialogue partners attended.
