This year marks the 70th anniversary of Tibets peaceful liberation. The signing of the Agreement of the Central Peoples Government and the Local Government of Tibet on Measures for the Peaceful Liberation of Tibet in 1951 ushered in a new era for Tibet.
Having experienced epoch-making changes brought about by peaceful liberation, democratic reform, the establishment of Tibet Autonomous Region, and the introduction of reform and opening-up, Tibet has witnessed a fundamental transformation of its social system and achieved incredible development.
Statistics show that Tibets GDP in 1959 only stood at RMB 174 million, which skyrocketed to RMB 190.274 billion in 2020. China declared Tibets complete elimination of absolute poverty in October 2020, as the final 628,000 poor in the region were lifted out of poverty within five years, thus marking another historic moment of the autonomous region.
Over the past seven decades, while enjoying vibrant and orderly social and economic development, Tibet has also made unprecedented progress in the protection and inheritance of Tibetan culture. All this owes to the peaceful liberation of the region 70 years ago.
