Grand Canal: Symbol of Culture
The Grand Canal of China, the worlds longest manmade watercourse, started 2,500 years ago. It traverses China from the south to the north, connecting the Qiantang River, Huai River, Yangtze River, Yellow River, and Hai River in this order. The Grand Canal has benefited and enriched people living along the manmade river. The manmade river is a national landmark, a culture in its fluid form, and an integral part of the national spirit. It is in our body and in our heart and soul. It comes from yesteryears and moves toward future.
